I'm watching this video because I just started speedrunning Katto: rising tides and I'm having a blast, the game is super short and easy for begginer, and also, free. It's probably too easy and boring for veteran speedruners, but for someone who wants to try and see if speedruning is for him, this game is amazing.

Came across this video and your channel randomly and really enjoyed your analysis. I totally agree with your take and would be very interested in more fantasy that looks at what systemic change, even if achieved magically, could look like.

Recommending celeste to new runners has to be lawful evil. It's an amazing game, but good god anyone in the top 100 is gonna make you feel horribly inadequate.

birdgut is a fun free game that takes a while to complete depending on your defininition I did a casual playthrough then I watched the world record and got an hour time with almost no practice

also hollow knight lol its super good and not too hard, and theres a great tutorial on the route by fireborn on yt (sorry to be one of those cringe hollow knight fans, but I think its fun to speedrun, since its not THAT hard, and there are lots of categories and stuff.)

If I had a nickel for every hat based platformer released in 2017, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.

From a first glance, OMNO might not look like a good game to speedrun, being pretty long at about 45 minutes and not having a large community, but it is pretty fun to speedrun. It's very movement based, and has a ton of glitches that are very easy to learn. Some people might be able to learn a full run just by watching some runs.

I'm new to speed running and think getting over it is fun oof.

the game i personally like to speedrun is super meat boy. i started actually speedrunning and grinding it recently, and within a week i was able to make improvements quite fast. it is a small community with little to no guides, but watching top level speedruns (and for me, a history of the world records), and right now my PB stands at ~27:49, with the world record being insanely fast at 17:27, and it is quite enjoyable, you should have a look into it

portal shouldve been on here, its pretty easy to learn most tricks and easy to get decent times. i could do it in 18 minutes on my second try

my first game i speedran was portal. and id highly recommend it as a beginner. the run is around 30 mins was my times when i was first starting it. if you dont want to do any fancy glitches.

One game that i would personally recommend i Trackmania Nationa Forever, its challenging to do the whole campaign but easier just doing one segment OR grinding an wr on an map. its also free :)

The fastest celeste speedrun is around 26 minutes, and the top 100 is 30 minutes :D

By the way, I would highly recommend running Hades over Bastion. It’s made by the same devs, and there is an amazing guide by SleepSoul that teaches quite a lot of things about the game.

I have like 70 hours in celeste and I still have alot more to it if you don't like speedrunning install some mods on celeste and it's a new game

While I agree with your picks, I have picked a different game despite the fact that I'm a new runner. I have chosen this simply because I played this game as a kid and I've recently rediscovered it, which has led to a lot of nostalgia. The game is called "Garfield", made in 2004 for WinXP. It is extremely niche and generally an unliked game, but my nostalgia is just way too strong. Watching the game's current WR was astounding. Of course the run is far from perfect (there are 3 runners and 5 official runs total), but the WR does include some sick "tricks" like jumping somewhere which would usually be just out of reach. It is also extremely fun to play such a niche game, because it is much easier to be the first person to discover a trick or glitch. I have found 1 glitch and 1 major trick so far and according to google, these haven't been discovered yet by anyone else. It feels amazing to, in a way, pioneer a game. I hope that you check out the game and/or the WR, in my opinion it's worth watching. However, according to the handful of reviews on this game, I'd fully understand if you aren't interested in the game ;)

i'd say that Celeste is the option, i want to start speedrunning because i had fun with Jak and daxter and did by myself "speedruns", where my record was 2 hours in JaD:TPL. i don't have nearly enough PC resouces to play a heavy game, like A hat in time (i did a speedrun about a 8-bit fangame though) and becomes unrunnable with less than 5 fps, so Badeline, i chose you!

Is Undertale a good game for beginners on speedruning?

you need to mention big tower tiny square, kinda like celeste but its an older game and its on cmg, they have like four instalments and all of them are fun.

mario odyssey in my opinion is a great game to start off speedrunning. it was my first and i became addicted to it
