Bro, thank you do much for this video. You sound amazing, just like your unique instrument does. I am a viola player but Im looking for a single strung mandola to accompany myself for my own youtube videos as well as gigging. Is it possible to purchase an instrument like this anywhere? It has to be electric-acoustic (or just acoustic!) and it has to be tuned cgda like a viola, single string. I have experimented with a concert uke tuned in 5th but.. it had some intonation problems since the frets and strings were not designed for 5ths (or maybe it was just a bad quality instrument/strings). I would appreciate any advice!
@isaaceichermandolinАй бұрын
Honestly, if you like this instrument you should reach out to Jim Triggs of Triggs Guitars online! He may be taking orders. The only thing is this instrument is not acoustic :( I know what you mean about the intonation of the uke.. my dad did that with a tenor uke and it worked okay. I don’t know of another builder that’s doing single string acoustic mandolas. Cheers

Beginner mandolin player here. Doesn't a mandolin supposed to have 8 strings? This seems like it has 4
@isaaceichermandolin2 ай бұрын
Electric mandolins can be “single-string.” And this instrument is a single-string electric mandola.

I started learning mandolin. How do I get to this level? Do I start learning the chords first?
@isaaceichermandolin2 ай бұрын
You definitely want to learn all the different components- chords, scales, melodies, and licks. As a beginner it won’t make a difference where exactly you start. For me when I was starting out, I learned a scale, then a tune in that key, then the chords to that song. And eventually you will develop fluency with the instrument!

Very cool track! I Love how complementary all of the instruments are. And how cool to have Vic as a feature! Nicely done.

It may bring more subscribers if these are taught as lessons as opposed to performing a demo

Thank you. I may revisit this concept as you’re not the first to mention it, and I’m looking for more lesson material. Cheers
@DNYS8N2 ай бұрын
@@isaaceichermandolin I know this can’t be true but it seems like you have to join something to get the lesson. At this point I think it would be easier to learn without you tube lessons. Most are just looking for the cliff note version like play G but do this now go and do that. Here’s the tab kind of lessons. I suspect as soon as one clicks on a lesson and they see a performance they move on.

This is a great overview of the flavors of minor scales (as opposed to the, really, only one flavor of major scale. One thing that I stumble over is that pesky DESCENDING melodic minor part of the scale, with the (in D) C natural and Bb. Is this largely discounted in modern theory these days?
@isaaceichermandolin3 ай бұрын
Thanks! I tend to think about the scales as the same notes ascending and descending, but I change up the notes anyway to achieve different harmonic sounds and tension. I think there are different ways that people look at it…

@@isaaceichermandolinI've been playing guitar for decades. I bought a Loar mando with a flat fret board not knowing I could get a radiused board. It seems hard to play. I wonder if a radius would make it easier.

I'm thinking of getting a mandolin so your tips are just what I need, Isaac. BTW, as I know from playing classical guitar with nails, the shape of the nail has a great influence on the sound produced. A nail shape that's rounder (has less of a peak in the middle) will produce a rounder tone. I'm guessing that's why the recommendations I've seen for mandolin picks call for ones that are rounder than those for guitar, since the mandolin's tone is already somewhat sharper than the guitar's.
