This was super interesting. I've just been getting into Trivium properly. I bought Ascendancy when it came out, it kind of got buried by other releases on my radar, and I literally just decided to have another listen after seeing some random video on KZbin and being reminded of the band. I'd honestly forgotten about how much shit Trivium got at that time. Being literally bullied by one of your favourite bands... yeah I probably would've just broken down crying in that situation. The thick skin it must've taken to endure that... I definitely remember the gatekeepy, edgelord, "I can't be bullied if I am the bully" energy surrounding the scene back then, and I definitely participated in it too. I'm very, very glad to see metal has largely moved past that that bullshit.

Truth of the matter is you cannot have In Waves, In the Court of the Dragon, Silence in the Snow, Shogun etc ... if The Crusade was never realased. Each album helps artists grow and get better ans better. I personally think The Crusade was a great album.

Wow it’s cool to hear that BTDB is his favourite album. It is not only my favourite FS album but legit one of my top 5 favourite albums of all time. Don’t know why, but everything about it just resonates from the artwork to the production. I think it’s the perfect album. So it was weird to see they only played Animal at Wembley! But how cool… that IF we get another album the be goal will be to beat the last album. That would be worth waiting for

i'm currently having my own music journey listening to trivium, i begun this year 2024 after hearing their collab tour announcement with bullet who are another of my longtime fav bands, then set out listening to one album at a time in full over a period of time before moving onto the next one, i started in order of ascendancy, in waves, sin and the sentence, started what the dead men say but went back to shogun, then leapfrogged again to in the court of the dragon... and OMG i am SPOILT with the quality of this album, and even though i learnt music by ways of keyboard and guitar, thanks to this year's musical journey i am now highly inspired by alex and paolo watching their playthrough vids, unfreakinbelievable i'm still blown away and lose my mind every time i listen to thrown in the fire, somehow the ending of the albums are almost always just as good as the beginnings and that makes the listener hungry for more and more, after a short 6months i am huge fan of trivium and thoroughly enjoying learning about all the behind the scenes on the band and their members/albums/journey, so a big thank you @primordial radio for this upload :D

I've been a fan of In Flames since 1995 and was lucky enough to see them at the Whisky in L.A. in 2000 while they were touring Clayman. The new album is better than the last few have been and I'm a big fan of Bjorn. But to me it's also not truly In Flames without Jesper. It's Bjorn and Anders with hired guns, and the more creative control Anders has tried to take, the more the music has softened and commercialized. He's just not that much into metal anymore as he ages, and it weakens the band. Further, eventually Chris Broderick will leave the band like Jeff Loomis left Arch Enemy. They can't put anything on Broderick's technique level into IF's music really because who would be able to play it? IF has never been a shreddy band in the same way Soilwork or Arch Enemy were. Perhaps the reverse of this is when Chris Amott and Johan Reinholdz joined Dark Tranquillity and deliberately simplified their playing to fit DT's more ambient sound. So, with IF what happens is you get a pretty solid feeling that within 5-10 years the material that is out now won't be played very much without Broderick, just like "Soundtrack to Your Escape" is something of an obscure album now at live shows. The band *can* recreate their past. Reconnecting with Fredrik Nordstrom and Studio Fredman is the first step in doing that. Dropping the Korn-influenced "alternative metal" label and stylings and fully embracing "melodic death metal" (not "melodeath," that wasn't the term they used in the 90s--it's an American metalcore term) would return them to form. How to be death metal again? Less of an emphasis on growled verses/clean choruses. That's too predictable now. Soilwork has done it to death. At The Gates newer stuff is an example of a band retaining its sound, even if "To Drink from the Night Itself" and "Blinded by Fear" are nearly the same riff. The question is will IF return to their 90s sound? My answer would be no because their new music is more accessible and thus has a larger (and younger and more profitable) fan base than they had up until the Colony/Clayman tour cycles brought them mainstream success. As a guitarist, I can even be more specific. Bjorn has said on numerous occasions that beginning with "Colony" they started to write songs that could be performed more easily live with two guitars. If you listen to "The Jester Race" and "Whoracle" you will hear much more intricate arrangements with more parts, usually at least six. "Lunar Strain" even sounds like a black metal band, and even some obscure things from "Subterranean" like "Stand Ablaze" are still outright bangers. Additionally, their adoption of drop Bb tuning in more songs instead of C standard means sludgy tunes like "Watch Them Feed" (from the "Trigger" EP) and "Transparent" (from "Reroute to Remain") became more of their modern sound. Their first drop Bb tune, "Pinball Map," at least kept the speed and energy up. So, they can make their old sound. They just won't because it would lose a lot of new fans and be more difficult to perform live. This was evident as early as "The Tokyo Showdown" when the older songs had entire parts drop out or change because they didn't have enough guitars to replicate the older stuff live. Going back to their older sound would also imply that their newer stuff isn't as good and seem like they are chasing their past. It would also make it seem like they can't come up with anything new that is as good as their 90s material but adds in new, good, fresh ideas to the old sound.

I think too much emphasis is placed on the headliner. I went this year and didn’t see one main stage headliner and still had a great time.
