Just been watching a couple of Urbex videos on this place and was fascinated with some of the architecture and features inside. What a real shame it has come to this! Was hoping to see such an interesting place brought back into use - similar to the old cinema in Wallsend in North Tyneside maybe. Anyway, that's another building with history and memories reduced to rubble and lost forever! Seems very strange how a lot of listed buildings have been lost this way!

οταν πετανε ψηλα, ερχεται βροχη, οταν πεταν χαμηλα ερχεται παγωνια. Παντως ερχονται μπροστα απο το κρυο οπως ο κοκκινολαιμης. απιθανα σχεδια πτησης και απολυτης ακριβειας .

Sad thing is a few years back they demolished and removed the weir. What was once a summertime swimming destination for many locals is now gone.

I did a lot of videos of this school when it was derelict in 1993. It was an amazing building and such a shame for it to be in such a poor state. The buildings were well designed and constructed between 1956 and 1958. It was the second school to be constructed in Preston after the Second World War, Ashton high School being the first. The Southworth buildings fell into disrepair very quick after its closure. Although it was a Roman Catholic school built by the Catholic trustees, based in Lancaster the county council owned the school playing fields facing Longridge Road. I think politics was a factor in its final closure as the county council would benefit from more children attending nearby Ribbleton Hall School instead, which was a council owned school. Parents of poor families may be reluctant to pay the bus fare to send their child to Corpus Christi which is quite a distance from Ribbleton. I think the school closure resulted in less catholic baptisms in the RIbbleton area which may be part of a social engineering project by the council?
