Praying all Diocesan Latin Mass Priests (those Masses possibly to be canceled mid month) will adopt this. I don’t know if our people will come back as we have other options within driving distance. But all is in Gods hands.

Yes, it's entirely the "ordinary form." Our visiting priest was Fr. Peter Stravinskas, who you might know from Catholic World Report or other venues.

I just think a lot of people had their own ideas and saw an opportunity. I recommend everyone read "Sacrosanctum Concilium," the council document on the liturgy. It's pretty short, and will be an eye-opener for a lot of people.

Thanks for stopping by. Not sure what you mean by "funeral mode." This particular Sanctus chant comes from the current Roman Missal. There is no particular chant mode for funerals.

Hello Father, this a live stream of our Pentecost Mass this past Sunday I would like your honest criticism and opinion on it. We use Latin for the holy holy holy and lamb of God during advent/lent, the greek is used for the lord/Christ have mercy in advent/lent as well. Thanks for asking. Yes, absolutely! This is the normative Mass-the various translations are based on it. A priest can celebrate the whole thing in Latin, or more realistically, start introducing parts of the Ordinary in Latin (Kyrie, Gloria, Sanctus, Agnus Dei), while keeping the propers and readings in English (or whatever one's vernacular happens to be). This fulfills Vatican II's call for the people to be able to say or sing in Latin those parts that pertain to them.

@@margaretormond7544 This is not correct. Permission is required to celebrate according to the 1962 missal. For the ordinary form Mass ("novus ordo"), no permission is required to use Latin, as that is the official language of the missal.

@@margaretormond7544 Yes, but this isn't the "Latin Mass." This is the novus ordo. The typical edition of the novus ordo is in Latin, from which all translations derive. Permission is needed for the so-called Traditional Latin Mass, which is the 1962 missal. Traditiones Custodes only impacts the celebration of the 1962 missal. Now, there may be some bishops who don't like that, just like there are some who restrict "ad orientem," but they are going beyond what the Pope laid out in TC.

Thanks for the comment. Not sure anything is forced, as it comes straight from the typical edition of the Roman Missal. But for what it's worth, that was a special occasion-we usually only have the ordinary in Latin.

This is what the council fathers intended! I think its great for propers to move since they are useful for the faithful to understand and learn about the saint or feast of the day and also having the reading just in the vernacular instead of going through it twice is a good improvement. The parts of the mass that don't change should be in Latin( In the Roman rite) so that it would connect us back with the history of Rome. I’m a Vatican II enjoyer and I want to emphasize that the council fathers knew what they were doing and were guided by the Holy Spirit in this process. Just read the documents for themselves. Here’s some excerpts “The use of the Latin language , with due respect to particular law, is to be preserved in the Latin rites” (sacrosanctum concilium no. 36) “nevertheless, care must be taken to ensure that the faithful may also be able to say or sing in Latin those parts of the ordinary of the Mass which pertain to them”(Sacrosanctum concilium , no. 54) “ in accordance with the age -old tradition of the Latin rite, the Latin language is to be retained by clerics in the divine office (Sacrosanctum concilium , No.101). I could also emphasize so many things about the Vatican II but the old way we are going to get out of this mess is by going back to the council fathers intentions NOT ignoring them. I just want to remind Catholics that this is a binding ecumenical council that was confirmed by the pope and too many of y’all are comfortable with just disregarding the power that Christ gave to the apostles in union with peter. Do you mean from this Mass, or in general? As this is the Mass of Paul VI, the mysterium fidei comes after the consecration of the chalice, rather than in the middle, as it does in the 1962 missal.

This just proves that the mass never needed to change. WE need to change. There could have been TLM masses offered in the vernacular and the Latin for people who were whining about not understanding the Latin. What the church has needed is the intensity and the fervour of true religious devotion. Not the watering down and Protestantising of the faith.

Mainly, it's because the Church asks us to retain Latin, and that the people be able to say or sing their parts (the Mass ordinary) in Latin (see Sacrosanctum concilium). This particular Mass was a special case, but the point remains.

In the earliest time, the Church of Rome used Greek, isn't it? And beauty is quite a debatable thing... I do love Ancient Greek, Ethiopic, Aramaic, all of them quite beautiful languages in their own rite (pun intended). Don't get me wrong, I love Latin and I think it is beautiful, but before using Latin with such a strong English accent, I'd rather not use it.

I got confirmed in a Novus Ordo TLM mixed parish, almost 1 year ago - at 43. I can't say I would have a problem attending this Mass, the priest made the effort to make it reverent, no sign of peace (which I find disruptive), altar rails, no altar girls, no lay ministers of Eucharist, and he has the pronunciation of an American but with Latin that is very clear and loud. I am sure he also has published Confession hours, so the people can receive this vital sacrament. Pax et bonum, et in templum Deum semper almbularis.

Thanks for commenting! We have a full choir and a chamber choir who sing at many Masses, but it's not practical to have them sing at every Mass. Our cantors are quite good, however.

I see Latin could be a harder one for your average Catholic. However the ad orientum and Gregorian chant I see it accessible and more reverent than the current common way of celebrating NO. Interesting to see and thanks.

Thanks for stopping by! This Mass was a special occasion. Normally, we have the ordinary of the Mass in Latin (Gloria, Sanctus, etc.) and most of the rest in English. People seem to find that accessible, and they really enjoy our traditional choir pieces (chant, polyphonic works, classic hymns).

He spent 40 days in the "wilderness," which in that area was basically a desert. He was in the garden just prior to his arrest. Love it! As Francis tries to restrict the Holy Mass in its Tridentine form, we should be making the Novus Ordo more TLM-like. Thanks to the priest for being part of that movement. I think he could just slow down a little bit, he's going crazy fast; also (but that's common to Americans) he speaks quite loudly. He shouldn't just say the prayers in silence, but could he whisper? Would love to see a perfected version of this to show to my fellow Novus Ordo priests.

The controversy over the Novus Ordo Mass and the TLM is really a controversy over Vatican II. Vatican II was initiate, planned, and opened legitimately. No question about that. However, almost from the beginning, the council was hijacked by the modernists. What resulted was a bastard child...the "spirit of Vatican II" which ignored the authentic council. Anytime one hears of the "spirit of Vatican II" he can rest assured the spirit is Satan.

Exactly!! The Novus Ordo was not a victim of the document, but of the 60s… ugly cars, buildings, clothes, cheezy folk music, etc… the world was just… lazy and cheezy. Unfortunately, laziness has kept a reverent NO from emerging many places. I attend a beautiful Novus Ordo at both Holy Rosary and Annunciation in Houston; it can be done easily!
