Who lives that way in today's world? You say: "We say we want eternal life..." It sounds like you're saying eternal life is centered on "Jesus", But whose "Jesus" are you talking about. Is it the same Jesus who guided the Apostles in writing the New Testiment warning of the consequences of our sin? But also the good news, the gospel. 1 Corinthians 6:9-11: "Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God." (1 Corinthians 6:9-11) Revelation 21:8 But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death." (Revelation 21:8)

A good book on the genealogies, which is much of Chronicles, is "All the Genealogies of the Bible: Visual Charts and Exegetical Commentary" by Nancy S. Dawson (Author) , Eugene H. Merrill (Author) , Andreas J. Kostenberger (Author)

I haven't gotten back to chronicles in my own lectionary, but man the opening names on that list. It's like a lightning rod, if you were an ancient Jew hearing that as the opening you'd be very excited. So many things going on there. Stuff like , is this the line of the promised seed, a prophet, is this a battle between the seed of the women and the serpent.

Problem is, many of the founding fathers were, deists, and they themselves didn't want to be pigeon holed into a Christ centered belief system. If the US was a true Christian civilization, is should have unabashedly invoked the name of Christ in it's founding. We are in the throes of the consequences of denying Christ as a nation via it's founders.

My guess on why it ends there. It shows Habakkuk was also a song, music and prophecy are closely connected in Scripture in many places.

Let’s do this! Jonah reminds me of an old JJW song… “I believe in treating… gentle, but first you gotta get their attention” (from the belly of this fish) Lord you have my attention.

One thing that interested me greatly when I went through my study was how you approach the ending. The traditional authorship was Jonah himself wrote it. You have to admit Jonah did not paint himself in the best light, taking Jonah as the author one can't help but wander did Jonah write this and lease it there as a sign of his own reflecting on his past?

Too many churches are afraid to take this position. Makes you wonder what their true goal is. Belief in, and Obidience to our Lord is important.

When the people’s eyes were opened I fully expected to see the phrase “Lord of Hosts (or Armies)” but it didn’t Was the story out of order? I thought Gehazi was already busted for getting the extra reward from Naaman? And made a leprous man. Figured we’d never see him again in public? “Come with me and see my zeal for the Lord”

“If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.” 1 John 1:8-10 ESV

I think if someone lives a life where they never really repented they were never a christian to begin with. The scripture shows there is salvation once we accept Jesus as our savior and we do get sanctified. Do we stop sinning entirely? hopefully , we shouldnt excuse our sin either. The commenters who disagree here dont even say that, idk if they believe you dont even need to have a heart of repentence because that is false too. If ya dont even care then where is your heart for God? So its nuanced. If you are christian you accept salvation and the sanctification process is also done with Gods help, he helps us defeat sinful behavior and change. If someone never changed at all then they are a lukewarm christian

Philippians 3:8-21 King James Version 8 Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, 9 And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:
