Brilliant! Another trip down memory lane. My buddy (Airborne) and I walked this hill a few years back. The helipad looked better back then with a picnic bench... I have a photo somewhere of me hand feeding a squirrel or chipmunk 😊 We didn't make the summit as there was static in the air (my first time seeing a walking stick hum with the electricity)... we bailed from the dip before the summit section. If I remember correctly, both of us were surprised to see seashells in the rock. Another cracking video. Many thanks ☘️

Wow! Cracking views bringing back vivid memories from many years ago. Myself and two other Irish Rangers climbed Baldy with an Airborne Artillery Sergeant on a cloudy June day. After shuffling around the Crux (there was rope kindly left up for hikers) we sat and got lunch as a cougar strolled within 10m... most exhilarating (we later reported it to a park ranger)... nearly as exhilarating as the scree run down to the walk off through the forest. Great video. Thanks for the memories ☘️

My brother and I went along with some other hikers to do Mt. Kidd. I don't remember whether it was Kidd South or Kidd North. I suspect it was Kidd North because I don't remember crossing a bunch of bridges, and I don't remember going up, up, and up a huge rocky slope like you did. I should mention that we did the hike in the early 1970s, over 50 years ago. I do remember as we were hiking back to the parking lot that it was already getting dark. Your video is very inspiring although it does leave me with this thought... "What was I thinking!"
@HarlanFox--Scrambles5 ай бұрын
@@Malcolm-Achtman ... I haven't done Kidd North (main summit) but it has a lot more scree. It also requires there to be hardly any snow in the gulley heading up as it can have Avi potential. I'm not sure if Kidd South was a big destination back then based on the fainter trails to access it. Hard to say.
@myronachtman43045 ай бұрын
@@HarlanFox--Scrambles I'm the "other brother" who did Mt. Kidd in July, 1971. Based on your video, I'm pretty certain we went up Kidd North. I do remember contending with a lot of scree. There was a fair amount of icy snow as well. I actually fell at one point and slid down 150' on icy snow. I was able to stop myself with my geological hammer once I hit a scree patch. I remember my fingers looking blue from the exposure to the cold surface. The worst part was having to do that portion of the climb a second time. Not fun.🙃 It was fun coming back down. The other guys on the adventure taught me how to ski down on the the snowy patches. Of course, there were no skis or ski poles, but I was wearing my Greb Kodiak boots. Fortunately, I was a very good ice skater, so adapting an "eagle" position and free-styling down the slope was invigorating. It's amazing what one can do when young and stupid.😵💫
