I think if this was a viable production car, Tesla would have already had a solar powered vehicle on the market. They could have done it much faster and cheaper, since they have the scaled infrastructure and also years of experience with safety testing and navigating all the government regulations, etc. The PROFITS are in the batteries (that includes all EV products, garden/lawn maintenace, etc.)

And everyday they burn more cash, rent, salaries, etc....😔

hub motors are a silly idea. not only does it ruin the dyanmics of the vehicle by adding a lot of unsprung weight, but it's also fundamentally challenging to design a good motor, which needs very tight rotor to stator clearances and good balance, to survive road wheel impacts.

I find it amazing when anyone brought up not using hub motors, all I heard is that the hub motors were the most efficient, plus no axles to mess up the aero and those axles will further decrease efficiency. Now, no hub motors and the same people are now backtracking on their old claims. I guess it's whatever Aptera says, just repeat it and support any of these decisions 100%. Same for the skin cooling, heat pump and vacuum resin body. I wonder what next big change there will be?

It appears to me that Aptera only talks about polishing their prototypes. Cars can be designed and built by small teams of graduate students. Factories require massive investment, huge teams to design and build the factory, and the product must be designed from day one for production. I only hear Aptera talk about the prototype. I don't see any focus on the factory.
