The Chevy Vega was Motor Trends car of the year in 1970. Believe it or not. Actually, although it was a piece of crap, I think the looks have aged well.

DVD & MTM forgot about the special they did almost 10 years earlier, "Dick Van Dyke and the Other Woman". It was such a hit that CBS offered MTM her own sitcom, and she & her husband founded a company to produce it & many other great (and sometimes not-so-great) shows.

Anwar Sadat paid the ultimate price for making peace with Israel. He was murdered by those who hate Israel. Siskel and Ebert were idiots for swallowing Hollywood propaganda. Star Crash was so awful. Marjoe Gortner was alwys in bad movies. But Caroline Munro was easy on the eyes. Thanks Fred.

I wasn't born until 1970, but I appreciate a lot of the music, movies and television from the 60s. And I really enjoy reading the comments of all of you who were alive at that time, with all your personal remembrances, and connections to things in the videos. Almost makes me feel like I was there in some way. I'm a very nostalgic person. I even enjoy other people's nostalgia. 🙂 Thanks for sharing everybody, and thanks for continuing to make these videos, Fred.

Wow! I still remember these cartoons. They were amazing. Much better than what children watch today although animation had many lmitations due to technology. Imagine these cartoons nowadays with all the technology available? They would rock! I used to love the Herculoids, Birdman, Fantastic 4, Thundar The Barbarian.... Well, all of them.

The number of videos with audio problems is confounding. How do people rip these videos from tape and not notice they forgot to plug in the right channel or whatever? It's especially bad when they have something wired stupidly and end up with the channels out of phase (none of those here).

Nice to hear the Sultans of Swing, and the ABC News theme, immediately recognizable to me, despite not having heard it in decades. Great to see the poster for Real Life, Albert Brooks' great, comic exploration of the beginnings of what would become, decades later, the reality TV craze. Hilarious film. The basketball footage brings back memories of my dad watching basketball on TV on the weekend, which I would sometimes join him for viewing. And then something I don't remember at all was the pre-Alex Trebek Jeopardy!. Admittedly, I was 9 years old at the time, and while I occasionally watched game shows, I probably would have watched something a little more colorful than something as comparatively intellectual as Jeopardy!. I probably watched more of The Price is Right (which my father-in-law was on, and won the showcase showdown, I believe in this very year, 1979), with their various games and such, or Let's Make a Deal, with all the audience in crazy costumes, at least at nine years old. But interesting to see that early version of Jeopardy!. And even more interesting to see the amazing precision of that whale picking up a watch. That was absolutely flabbergasting to me, for it to pick up something so small in its huge mouth and carry it that way. Animals (and specifically in this case, mammals) are amazing...

March of '79 was another month closer to graduating from high school. It's still surrealistic, at least to me, that the Three Mile Island disaster and 'The China Syndrome' in theaters happened at the same time. (BTW, Jack Lemon was great in that movie!) Thanks for another great flashback, Fred.

The big event in the television industry was the March 5, 1979 network affiliation switch in Minneapolis-St. Paul as longtime NBC affiliate KSTP Channel 5 switched to ABC (considered ABC's biggest coup at the time), with NBC switching to Metromedia-owned independent WTCN (now KARE) Channel 11 and former ABC affiliate KMSP Channel 9 going independent (now Fox). It's what got me interested at a young age in the whole business side of television.
