What an amazing bright star and role model! Congratulations to McKenzie on all of her achievements and great involvement in Amateur Radio, for supporting the Amateur Radio Service today and for investing in its future through her great mentoring efforts. We can all learn from her example of dedication, drive, and devotion to actually making a difference for the better in our society. I am convinced that McKenzie will also be one of the truly greatest Medical Doctors at the top of her chosen profession as her star will continue to shine brightly! ✨️

2 month old Amateur here: I understand the concept of contesting. If I hear a station calling CQ contest if I'm not participating IE submitting my logs to the contest officials, Is it okay for me to come back to the calling station or does My qso not count for him on this contest.
@Kid270855 күн бұрын
Yes, you should always respond. Especially listen and somewhat figure out the exchange prior. If you're unable to identify what the exchange is, I'd suggest waiting until things slow down, call in and ask. They should be very happy to help you out. If you're not planning on submitting a log, it's always good to do about 5-10 contacts, so your call doesn't get thrown out for being too "unique"

Thanks guys! Lots of great thoughts. I watched FB Mktplace and found some Herman Miller mesh chairs for $35 each and bought 4. Used one for SS and CQWW CW and love them. I have a sit/stand desk I have thought about using, but I found a great table/desk at Habitat that I am using now that I love. Trackballs make a lot of sense to me, though I am using a wireless mouse due to shortage of USB ports. I use 2 4K Samsung 28" monitors plus the laptop screen which gets the online scoreboard on it. Backlit keyboards are nice too so the lights can be turned down without making it hard to see - after 40+ years of typing I still need to look sometimes too. I've been using DXLog since I've spent a lot of time contesting with Chris, but I can use N1MM+. I miss TR Log and some day I will figure out how to get it fired up on Linux! I agree with Bill that it is good to be able to use multiple. For that reason I will probably use N1MM+ for ARRL 10. Will be using K7NXL, my good friend Dan's call, running HP multi-mode from EWA. Looking forward to good conditions! 73, Mike K7NT

Well done kiddo, have fun and enjoy your path, don’t rush, take the correct amount of time to achieve your goals. When you stumble, acknowledge the stumble, learn and remember that your goal are part of the journey. Your finir line is not a fixed point, be flexible, good things take time. Rule one, be safe and enjoy the journey. Good luck

I met Kenzie at Field Day in 2021. She was an amazing young ham and very comfortable at a busy HF rig. In fact, she routinely seeks out the extra radio activity at Williamsburg Area Amateur Radio Club (WAARC) events. BTW, she's right: WAARC is an amazing club! I've watched her grow in the hobby more and more over the years; I am continually amazed by her achievements. One day, I'm going to see her doing something even more amazing and feel proud to have known her from nearly the beginning. Congrats, Kenzie! -Scott, KE4WMF

I've met McKenzie a couple times; at a BSA event at ODU last winter and at a local hamfest. Impressive young lady! Kudos to her parents as well! I'm glad she was able to resurrect the ODU club and hope that it'll be able to continue after she graduates and continues on to medical school. Great interview! McKenzie, after all your medical training and into practice, I'm sure you'll find a little more time for radio. I know a doctor who's retired now.... When he was practicing, he ALWAYS found time for radio. He's big on contesting and into the technical side as you are. 73, Steve KC4JGC

Hearing her talk about the club members showing her how ham radio related to medicine and emergency preparedness reminds me of what I hear often about recruiting new hams - find out what someone is interested in and then tie ham radio into their interest.

Natural leader. She's way ahead of the young engineers where I work who sign up for 'leadership programs', which they often take 'to get ahead'. But you can't fake it, and you can't really get these skills from courses. McKenzie is the real deal. Best of luck to her.

Sooo I got a question for the contest crew. Off Topic BUT...... I will start off saying I am not a Contester but am a fanboy. Big fan of this page. But Yeasu Is HUGE right now, Mostly because they have actually come out with new radios, heavy marketing, and people like them. Everyone is on the Yeasu bandwagon right now, DX'ers, POTA, etc.... BUT I dont see them being used by contesters. The only reason I can think of is Duty Cycle? Can't handle the work load? ICOM and Elecraft seem to be king among contesters and a few Flex Fans. But why not Contesters? You will see contesters using old kenwoods and other older model radios before a Yeasu. Thoughts? Am I wrong?
