Learning myself. I find that MorseRunner (Community Edition) is a good app for practicing reception proficiency and copying calls. Only just started to hunt with cw.

This group of four very talented individuals working together can certainly be viewed as the A-Team when it comes to DXpeditions. Excellent planning and execution. Another thumbs up for focusing on the Next Generation. Thanks for passing on the knowledge. Another great interview. Thanks Kevin and Phillip. WA7RAR

As a new contester, I did phone contest from Az. One call would be from Europe and the next would be from South America. How would one use a yagi in this instance? Or just stick with a dipole? Thanks.

@JayN4GO11 күн бұрын
So just from my experience, if the yagi is under 50ft or so , chances are you will still hear SA. Or there are a few other options. One is to have a vertical rx antenna or a beverage style antenna directed towards places you want to check. Becoming a better contester includes learning how antennas work at different elevations. Each yagi provides a beam width with rejection points. The lower to the ground, the more it will shine for domestic contests. Remember these are what most of us can use anyways. Ideally the monoband yagis above 70ft are way better at dx. I believe you can get too high for your yagi. Keep a clean switching antenna selector in line and a simple vertical or inverted V should work well. Honestly the yagi will probably hear SA about the same at these elevations as the rx antenna assuming we are talking about 10-40m. All relevant to your qth and noise profile. Some use a receive loop for these purposes as well. Hope this was clearer than mud 😂

The best part is how you draw out the passion and motivation of your guests. Watching the Contest Crew is like popping a can of Popeye's spinach, it makes me want to practice and refine my skill set and improve my station. Let other channels go deep into the technical detail, this is the one I go to for the "why" of contesting, dxpeditions and the like.
