Something I have t seen people talk about is why Jello didn’t mention Franky, in the description Jello wrote, “If you’re wondering why I didn’t touch on Franky, It’s because he doesn’t have much of an effect on the story before or after joining the straw hats.”

Robin doesn’t get as much fights, because not only is she not meant to have a fighting role on the crew, but she also PARALYZES her opponents. Robin was always meant to deal with groups of enemies compared to one singular foe, and when she does fight she one shots everyone.

How dud not mention gon vs Hanzo? That fight and the zoldyck vs chrollo is a prime example of why 99 in my personal opinion handles this oart if the series betterthan 20ll. Its the directions and the animation itself. The choices the directs and animators made was much more inspired. I feel like alot of people make the argument 99 is better with out understanding the techincal things rhat go into making film and animation because alot people do not know these things. They just know they loke something. 2011 i think really hits its stride in the chimera ant arc. Alot of its dirdtion tends to be more flat and generic to tour standard fare anime at the time eseocially compared to 99. Its like 2011 was trying to be more inline with the manga panels. 99neas more interested in elevating and adapting shots giving it a more conematic and movie lile feeling.

Also, I'd like to add that while many seem to think that Foxy arc doesn't add anything, it's actually jam-packed with relevancy regarding the story, characterisation, themes and lore. It comes at a point in the story where we've fought 2 powerful, god-like Logias back to back, and it's a reminder of both the fact that it's not the fruit, it's the user and their creativity, as well as thematically add to Usopp's status as the weakest in the crew right before an arc where he leaves because he feels too weak. Long Ring Long Land is all about the possibility of losing crew members while fighting a weak character who gives Luffy a run for his money simply by being crafty. The next arc deals with a weak character leaving the crew and giving Luffy a proper fight simply by being crafty. Like Luffy literally declares he'd rather die than lose anyone in his crew, JUST before an arc where he loses two crewmates. And at the end, after reminding us that even a silly character with a weird Paramecia fruit can still pose a threat, we're thrown at the mercy of yet another super powerful Logia user, which serves as a catalyst to the next arc and is a part of the reason why Luffy wounds up developing more powerful techniques in hopes of countering Logia users. And of course, there's the lore implications of LLRL. Like rising sea levels which is much later confirmed in the story, and the general crown shape of the island itself, which may or may not allude to certain things seen later in the story. There's also the fact that, and I can't stress this enough, everything on the island being thin and long, AS IF STRETCHED OUT, because THEY FEEL FREE. Not only does it thematically fit 1:1 to Luffy, I'd like to remind you of what Luffy's fruit's awakening (The form he takes when he's "completely free") can do, and the fact that he isn't it's first user. And of course there's also a ton of neat character moments in the arc, like Zoro telling Chopper to stop crying and accept the realities of being a pirate, Zoro and Sanji's co-operation in the fight, Usopp's support as Luffy's manager (to showcase their bond just before their fallout) and plenty of other stuff. All in all, I genuinely feel like LRLL is an underappreciated and overlooked arc. Like Thriller Bark, it's not bad, and it's not useless, but it suffers from being in between two great arcs that it can't compete with as a story. Which, granted, they aren't trying to do, either. (Also, there's also the popular theory that it was to introduce us to Davy Back Fight because Oda wants to bring it back, possibly by having Shanks and Luffy face off in one, but that's just a theory and shouldn't really count as a reason to defeat LRLL, at least until it happens, if it does.)

While I, too, understand where the claim that One Piece has too many characters is coming from, I still whole-heartedly disagree with this. I think the problem relates more to Oda's insane release schedule and having to maintain it. It's hard to tell a long story with limited page numbers and fast pace releases. In hindsight, One Piece would probably be better off as a monthly release, but I doubt it would ever have achieved the same popularity if it was, even if it made it better. And frankly, the character bloat of arcs like Dressrosa and Wano were mostly issues during weekly reading, but if you read those arcs in one go, they're not nearly as bad, to the point I wish Oda expanded MORE on those characters. It's also kinda sad that due to the aforementioned scheduling problems, it's clear that Oda, despite loving the series deeply, is also growing old and tired of it, and wants to run to the finish line, and I feel like this is a part of the reason why he's cutting corners to get there faster, but he doesn't really cut from the insane cast, which makes the amount of characters seem even more ridiculous. And then when you combine this with One Piece's greatest strength AND it's greatest weakness, which is Oda's intense love to the world and character's he's written, which means that he rarely kills them off despite having a lot characters to cull, the cast keeps just expanding arc after arc. But as said, it's not as much the amount of characters as it is the pacing of both the story and the release of One Piece. I have great hopes for the upcoming Wit Anime, and hope that they manage to even out these problems. That said, seeing as they're aiming to cut out like 3/4ths of the episode count, I'm not seeing a reality where they'd expand MORE on some of the characters as much I see them cutting some out. But hey, if they cut out three less important characters, maybe there's more room for one that's more important, instead. And lastly: One Piece isn't perfect. There's a lot of valid criticism it gets among the myriad of misunderstandings and bad faith readings of the manga, but I also think that it's literally impossible to write a perfect, flawless story, let alone write one for 25 years straight with such an intense pressure as what Oda is under. Considering that, the fact that One Piece still manages to be a great story worth reading, is damn near a miracle.

I find it funny that one of the characters he said could be cut was Gernika. GERNIKA. You know, the guy who caused Luffy to LOSE the fight against Kaido and ultimately made him awaken Gear 5. Yeah I dont know lets just replace him with Lucci. In fact lets remove every CP member that has EVER shown up and just use...3? yeah 3 of the CP9 agents because there's only like 3 important ones, right? Seeing Lucci and Kaku popping up everywhere wouldnt get old after a while. I think what Jello doesnt understand is that as an Adventure Manga, One Piece feels like a living world. It's not something like Bleach where you have the main group, the captains and the villains of the arc and no one else basically exists in the world. Every island, every faction is it's own thing, people are constantly moving around in the background while arcs are going on. Hell the whole point of the cover stories is to show events happening around the world that wouldnt really fit into the main narrative but are of importance enough to show as the story progresses. I would 1000% put money on Jello saying his favorite anime (if he even has one) is like Attack on Titan because its SO MUCH BETTER than the other garbage.

Bro literally said "Robin not getting fights isn't because sexism, it's because the men in the cast are stronger!" and says it's not sexist smh
@LunaticThePhantomКүн бұрын
@@PlayMadness That's not quite what I said. I mean mind you I never outright say sexism is off the table, I just don't agree with jumping to that conclusion so soon, especially given the amount of other factors at play. After all, the reason Jello jumps to that conclusion that Robins lack of fights is a result of sexism is because he assesses that Robin, despite being one of the strongest characters in the show, doesn't get any fights despite this being untrue, hence why I said "other characters are way stronger". This on top of, as I explained in the video, Robin not being nearly as popular as the Monster Trio (Luffy, Zoro & Sanji, who usually gets the important 1v1 fights ever arc), and pretty much the entirety of the StrawHat crew outside of those three not getting 1v1 fights after a certain point (which fyi, is primarily made up of men), I just think the assumption that it's sexist ignores a lot of other details. Apologies for the long response, but I found what you had to say interesting so I thought I'd chime in 🤭

While I do have some issues with how oda portrays and designs some of his female characters, especially post timeskip, suggesting Robin or Nami aren't allowed relevancy bc of sexism is WILD. Oda clearly gave them incredibly important roles in the crew, they may not get as many one on one fights (which, I'll be honest, fights aren't on my personal top reasons on why I read one piece) but Robin's role as reader of the Poneglyphs and Nami's established role as THE navigator are key for the crew and for luffy's journey.... like, Nami was meant to be the first crewmate to join I believe, as her equivalents in the Romance Dawn pilots did, it was just suggested by editors for zoro to join first because. well yeah that was bc he is a man and shonen is for boys or some dumb shit. Still, bonkers point to make the whole video has a very aggressive vibe, it feels mean spirited rather than when a fan critiques certain points about a story they still love, especially the last part

What bothered me about that scene with Chichi reuniting with her son Gohan at the end of the saiyan saga is when she flat out says she thinks it’s Goku’s fault this happened to her son. I understand why her attention would be focused on her son first seeing as he’s her 5 year old son, but Goku died trying to save Gohan’s life. And when Piccolo flew off with Gohan there was nothing Goku could do about it because he was dead. Even though this annoyed me a great deal, for the most part I’ve been more understanding of her lately now that I’m an adult… for the most part at least. In my mind I personally believe that she is so obsessed with Gohan’s studies because she knows first hand how dangerous Goku’s lifestyle is. She knows she can’t control what Goku wants to do with his life but she knows she can try and steer Gohan in a different direction. She really wants Gohan to become a scholar so that he can earn a good living without endangering his life. And when she yells at Gohan while he’s in the hospital trying to tell him not to go to planet Namek, she’s just a mum who wants her 5 year old son to live a normal life and she wants him to not be in danger. What kind of mum would be okay with her child endangering their own life like that? But yeah, she’s definitely not my favourite character. Far from it. But compared to how I felt about her when I was a child, nowadays I’ve been more understanding towards her during certain moments.

I was about to write some sort of defense of the original video and it's content but this video, along with the comments, have just decided to take everything jello said in full bad faith. The "So this is basically" videos have always said objectively false things about the series. I would genuinely hate to say something along the lines of "it's just parody", because that's a lazy response and dismissive, but it is. It's a parody about a show about pirates interspersed with small opinions. It's causing no harm to anyone, if it did then maybe I'd have to give you more validity in making this, so to nitpick at this length doesn't make me think that you're a good analyst/critique, it just makes you look quite petty. (I'm not looking for a fight I was trying to be relatively neutral there, apologies if that isn't clear lmao)

The problem is that considering what Jello has shown on twitter, and with other videos, is that genuinely, none of this really satire. It may have light hyperbole and a few jokes to soften his outrageous opinions, but as shown with his other posts, the stuff he says in the "This is Basically" are his actual opinions on the story. He claims it's just satire, but all of his previous actions have SHOWN that he has genuinely zero understanding on how to write good stories, and what makes stories work. No only that, but he repeatedly gloats about being a wonderful writer, and how bad Araki and Oda are, while fundamentally misunderstanding their stories and the messages surrounding them on such a level that it's baffling. None of what he says is a joke or satire, he's genuinely just an Idiot

My boyfriend is a massive One Peace fan, and Jellows video rildled him up. Now I know why. Plus once Robin was a established character we learn the reason she's so valued especially when she was with crocodile, that is because of her ability to read the hieroglyphs. You know the one thing that can tell you were the one pieces and these very dangerous weapon's that can end the world. It was very clear to me near the end of Alabasta is that Robin never really wanted to hurt anybody or kill them. In fact the people we saw her "kill" ended up being alive. Her value to the team isn't fighting, it's the fact that she has knowledge that no one else does and her ability to discover more information because no one else can read the hieroglyphs. Its like saying Nani is useless because she's not a fighter either. When we all know that the straw hats would not be able to navigate the grand line without her.

Oh no... you mean to tell me Oda sexualized young characters? In a manga for teens? Specifically aimed at teens that like girls? Teens that are h0rny on main? Oh the Audacity of oda to create characters for teens to crush on Oh.., but what about the adults that read the manga? The same adults that grew up with one piece? I mean, is not like they are allowed to have childhood crushed and still be fond of those characters. Of course thinking a drawing is sexy makes you a ped0! And silly me, to think Oda is not the worse of them all for... drawing. Doing his job All the girls are just eye candy. Nami isn't resourceful and intelligent, Robin isn't strong and capable, Vivi isn't brave and kind. Is not like they went thought arcs and traumas and are more than just looks Is not like Oda actually write good female characters. Nooo, he just put them there to f4p. Oh but the proportion is wrong right? Is not like Oda can have a personal style. If you make a girl sexy you are obviously mysogenistic! And how dare I, a queer AFAB, think this isn't a bunch of bull because again, is all drawings Honestly, the fact anime and manga got main stream was a mistake. The whole point of Arlong is not to show "Oh slaves will become slavers! Slavery good!" Its literally a word for word cautionary tale on how hatred will only lead to more hatred. Its to show that some people will use people's misfortune to push their selfish goals, in this case arlong using the history of racism faced by his kind to make his fellow fish man become tyrannical pirates... it's to show a cycle of violence that sadly happens in real life, sadly in real life many people who are hurt by prejudice will become easy targets for radical evil groups, in real life a lot of marginalized people can have the choice to take that pain and use it for evil instead of good. Because at the end of the day that's what happens when we ignore the pain marginalized groups suffer.

"Foxy arc does nothing for the characters or world building" that's Foxy arc slander! It's the first arc where Zoro ask Sanji for help! Where he admits that he can't defeat the Groggy monster alone and that they have to collaborate for 30 seconds. Also the switch from it to Aokiji is far more jarring than the way it happened in the anime, with Aokiji being on some random island.
