Thanks for this throwback! It's still amazing to watch Kong linghui play, so simple and patient yet great quality and placement on his strokes... Almost like a surgeon operating on a patient!

He wasn't a surgeon against Kim Taek So.He always looked like a world beater against his teammates.

Before: They use celluloid ball 38 mm. They are serving 5 in a row without 30sec preparation. They playing till 21. Spectators are watching the game. It was a theater, comparable with tennis. Now: We use 40.5 mm plastic ball. We are serving 2 in a row with 30 sec preparation. We playing till 11. We have fun team who participated in the show. It becomes something else.

I've heard that Wang Liqin has been a penholder player,and suddenly has decided to change his grip style.Is this true?
@dickn.ormous10642 ай бұрын
There was a rumour about Kong Linghui.Chen Qi for certain started as a penholder.Wang Liqin was always a shakehand player.Ma Lin played with short pimples in his early days.

Waldner not up for this match, not moving and missing.Samsonov too was a truly great player
No doubt you mean Ma Lin. Ma Long was 12 at the time and not quite up to speed yet... :^) I don't think Waldner played Ma Lin in that event. He did a few months later in January of 2002 at the Pro Tour Final in Tianjin. I might post that match sometime in the near future. It was a beauty!

@@ericzeigler8669Xu's footwork was nowhere near Ryu's, not even Ma Lin's. He was good at long distance move, which took advantage from his height, but his footwork was not precise enough to let him stay close to the table. That would be you if there's someone young and ignorant.
