T'was ... and is ... an utter farce!! It's almost like a bunch of execs just chose some seemingly great sounding words and expected that the entire development community's IQs would halve overnight.... Love your summary, Heather! PS: Who knew that the PL in GPL stood for Personal Lobotomy? 😏
@suvetar2 ай бұрын
@Heather, I've also got to say - I wish I had discovered you and your ideas long before now ... as it is actually a home project I am working on now, literally *with* ChatGPT, or CG as I call her (... I anthropomorphise a lot, can't help it - Sorry!). I shan't go into detail publicly yet, because we're still working on it, but it's essentially a development environment and toolkit to help promote trust and transparency, in the code that CG produces, the way our ideas build of each others work, and that we both still maintain enough objectivity of the whole, to maintain the ability and indeed Will, to apprehend the bigger picture! I would dearly love to discuss it with you properly, when I get to a point where I feel it's properly demonstrable, but I am also on the other side of the Pond, so it's 00:46 as I write this. I suppose a nutshell summary might help right now though, and that is we're working on a collaborative development system that allows all parties (Human and AI) trust in the rest of the code, but also a sensible measure of overwatch ... if that's the right term? We actually started it with a concept of 2+1 pair programming, 2 humans and GPT, but soon realised that I'm quite happy to pair program with CG on my own... I am looking forwards to doing more with CG and creating a better metaphor!

My head exploded starting at 14:10 "...where are all these royalties for the IP? If you go to most business analysts or worse, IP lawyers, they will tell you that you need to protect your IP because it is very valuable. But actually, what is valuable about your ability to execute and solve problems for your customers. IP is about creating barriers to entry, but all the barriers in the world will not make your product any good. Your product is about your brand, and that's a kind of IP because it involves your trademark [and brand which stand for your reputation]. So it's your reputation that you need to protect, but the idea that your fledgling software is monetizing IP like patents, trade secrets, or copyrights is actually pretty misleading." ...this articulates my gut instinct to even self-sabotage selling the "software product" to the community by selling trust and improving relationships above all. That will lead to sustainable and ethical growth and hopefully move corporations towards a more altruistic MO. Open source provides a tangible and legally safe space for consumers, businesses small and large, among other stakeholders to drive the core IP and to thwart monopolistic tendencies of corporations instead of relying on a planned and centralized entity like the government to regulate it (which is itself an imperfect power distribution much like a corporation). Open source truly opens up the economy of software, and I think will do the same for other verticals.

Thanks for explaining how costco works.Have an complicated commercial calculation app, that has balanced mix of initial sales, and maintenance revenue. The concept of making a "complementary app" seems key to opening up a utility app to give the customer some more ways to use the main product, and enhance it's stickiness. I see opensource projects out there that could be the basis for such an app so it may be quite practical...

You are going to see a lot of us Aptera fans visiting your page, because your discussion on Steve's AOC channel was so well done. Kudos. I happen to also be in the SF Bay area, and years in the tech industry. So it was amusing to have seen the Waymo video and news stories go viral. Having worked on video analytics software, ADAS, and tech troubleshooting, it makes sense that Waymo rearranged their parking lot. Because with bad press, you want to take as many "easy" steps to remedy the problem, on top of reworking code. Plus features like close proximity honking are still going to be valuable outside of this parking lot. I don't know about the communications between different Waymo vehicles, but if they communicated and "recognized" one another, it seems like it would be a relatively easy bug-fix to simply make them honk-free when nearby other Waymo vehicles. I bet that Cruise (who also had SF driverless cars) wished that their problems were so simple to mitigate. Thanks Heather, and Subscribed.
@heathermeeker52983 ай бұрын
Thanks! Waymo seems to be winning hearts and minds slowly, and it was good that they responded to the issue--however they actually did it. The main thing, I think, was being responsive.

Reportedly, the honking continued a few weeks after the fix... It seems they only geo fenced the honking so it couldn't happen inside their lot but left it on the road coming into the lot. So once they inevitably stacked up on the road they still honked. 😂 kzbin.info/www/bejne/fIvRXoR8aaZolZY
