It always helps me to know Kanji especially when playing games like Shogi
@thecalendarninja3 сағат бұрын
I just started learning Japanese and I immediately noticed I can understand alot of things due to the Kanji. I started learning Mandarin Chinese a few years ago, and although the pronunciation is totally different in Japanese, I noticed that the general meaning of many of the kanji is the same. Like for example Shui 水 for water 💧 and many others such as chu ko. 出口 for exit and so many others

I've spent 2 weeks in Tokyo in May this year - Japanese people don't fcking care about priority seats. I haven't seen anybody let elderly person seat even once. People only cared about parents with baby strollers so they can fit. All the elderly had to stand up because of young businessmens sitting with their phones on the priority seats.

A lot of your "train"rules" are common sense, or should be, in other countries as well. But where I live right now, people are quite inconsiderate. Not only on trains. They are blocking the door of the train, a lot of them put a bag on the empty seat next to them to prevent someone else from sitting down! Another annoying thing: women/mothers enter the train with their baby strollers, taking space and also standing near the door. As well as people with full shopping trolleys. So you have to manoeuver around to get away from the door and inside the carriage.

Im glad you do these videos. People should really do all their research before going to another country...especially with etiquette. I just can not imagine being disrespectful intentionally. I am really hoping in the future they open the alley ways to see the Geisha and Maiko again in Kyoto. Those horrible tourists ruined it for those of us who have learned their history and just want to watch them walk by. Ugh ❤

difference between 道 and 路 ?

Great question!! 道 is broader and used metaphorically or generally. 路 is more formal and specific to routes or poetic expressions.

I plan to come and visit; it's on my bucket list. When I was a kid, I admit, Japan always had the best video games as well as movies, anime, etc. I took time to read about its history and found that isolation would have been a great benefit centuries ago, if our African ancestors did it. Some things in the world probably would have ended up differently. As I read though the history and the culture, with each day, I respect Japan even more. I've seen a lot of KZbin videos on the subject of coming for tourist, work, or even to spend the rest of one's lifetime there. I've played a lot of riichi mahjong, so one day I hope to test my skills in a mahjong parlor (if I'm allowed as a gaijin). As I've watched more of these videos, I've learned also, while some business practices can be easily compared to Jim Crow in the USA, I can say from what I see on KZbin that some people tend to be polite about it. Do I think that Japanese are racists, I wouldn't give a Yes or No answer. Because as a gaijin, no matter what is done, even earning citizenship in Japan (if it's even possible for some gaijin). I would be treated as a gaijin regardless. With the crazy things that US tourists are doing now, they are embarrassing my country. I'm use to apologizing, even when its not my fault, something I've learned in life. So, I must apologize on behalf of the US for the misbehaviors of our country. Japan I think can be even a greater country as the years go on. There's just one thing I hope that remains. Even if that means offending everyone around you. And that is the very culture that makes your nation special. Just try to separate the polite gaijin from the rude ones.

@kurooschurro2 күн бұрын
you kind of have to learn the kanji to read. I mean, imagine if you were in Japan. Almost everything is written in Kanji. Maybe you wont need to physically write in kanji, but reading it is essential. So, yes, you have to learn.
@kurooschurro2 күн бұрын
imagine if everything were written in Hiragana or Katakana. That would be so confusing to read and understand. It‘s not only kanji that you need to learn, but the japanese language as a whole.

I don't like Japanese people at all. With their forced smiles, it makes me angered. When we try to be friendly, when we try to get to know them, they suddenly abandon us by “ghosting” us. They refuse to say their honesty, they impose their tatemae on us. They think they avoid conflicts, but they are wrong. Japan is not the right place to meet people. and learning Japanese means having brain pain

I didn’t dare to ask you to approach this theme, I see you are versatile and have very sensitive subjects, too! It is good because we ( non Japanese) we are interested but to shy to dare to ask about it! I hope Japan will see that balance in professional live vs private time is essential for mental health and wellbeing, Japan is such intelligent nation. I live in Paris since 2016 and here I never ever worked overtime, holidays are tabu and we sometimes have 2h lunch …, I have more that 30 days holiday and I am extremely efficient and work a lot, but my free time is respected and it is a booster for better work.

the only one i would agree with is learn particles and sentence structure to the rest i dont know coach for example most books are useless for most outsiders outside of doing introductions, most courses are useless for most outsiders outside of doing introductions, mostly because my time with japanese people have been formal for the introduction and everyone is informal after that, meaning the books dont mean crap anymore, it is also very difficult to get a book that explains particles well and they are damn rare so good luck

If you asked those people what they think about respect, it is likely that they would say they want to be respected. Yet, here they are in Japan disrespecting Japanese people. Every train car in Japan has notices that say please be quiet and don't talk on the phone while riding on the train. Japanese people like to relax in peace while they commute on the train. And Japanese people do a lot of commuting. I recommend that those guys learn about Japanese culture. Within Japanese culture there is great beauty, wonderful people and opportunity for sublime tranquility. Also, at the clubs, izakayas, matsuris and many other places there is ample opportunity for exuberant artistic expression, which many Japanese people will "dig the most."
