Haha, maybe that's how it works in a pure Japanese relationships but often international relations are about escaping the beaten path. Me and my husband 'slow' dated for 3 months before we become a couple, because we were neighbours and he was "showing" me Japan. I only got an idea of where his intentions are when he suddenly asked me whether I had a boyfriend at home. Not that it was a weird question, the timing was weird. He just blurted it out of the blue when we were walking home one day. He did make a "confession" instead of going for a kiss like a Westerner would. But we didn't move slowly once we were 'dating', pretty much head over heals in love, no restraints. English word "love" featured a lot but ai shiteru he said once or twice only when we were in a very committed relationship.
