I bought the very exact set up as yours. Also about 6 years ago. I hav chucked the tripier case The zippers became a real nuisance to use. Had to use pliers to grab and pull on the tab. Went to leaving the whole pier and mount assembly together in one piece. I then attached that assembly to an easily transportable two wheel dolly I got at Costco. Leave that parked in my garage. Saves 30 minutes in set up and another 30 minutes in breaking down.

Thats great! I had one zipper tab break on the tripier case but I just use the other one and zip to about 75% closed. Works fine like that so far. It's great to have hacks to make life easier!!!

I had an older Ultima C-11 SCT, it weighed 30 lb on my bathroom scale, so the 10 " would be somewhat lighter, I think? Mounted the C-11 on my Vixen GP D a few times, it was an over kill on the Vixen mount rated for 25 lb, but careful balancing I was able to use it for visual observation.

Bom dia, caro desenvolvedor o Polar Scope Align Pro pode ser utilizado para fazer alinhamento de montagem no hemisfério sul, ou existe um app especifico para esta área?

Thanks for the Video, GREAT JOB! I have a question - I am confused on one thing, and maybe someone else my answer this question too. I just bought the Skyguider Pro and haven't gotten a chance to use it yet. So. I have been watching YT Vids on setting it up; but there is contradictory or incomplete information on what it is you are aligning to. Does the North Star go in the CENTER of the scope, or does it go on the inner ring (NH) at the position where your app (whichever one you are using) shows the North Star? The way the instructions read, and shows, is you place the North Star on the inner ring in the same location as whatever app you are using shows the North Star to be. I have seen a few videos using this method. I AM CONFUSED!

I appreciate this a ton...even 4 years later, and I'm sure many years to come it'll help others and probably preserve a few CEM60 worms, haha. I really needed to understand the inner working of the clutch mechanism to keep my mind at ease. When I know how it works, I know that I am using it correctly and not damaging it.

This method seems like it would be adding backlash in the gears between the coarse and fine focus knobs too.

Hi Astro Jeff, if money was no object with these mounts, which one would you now choose? Cheers!
@_Astrovert2 жыл бұрын
If money were no object I'd look at the Astro Physics or Paramounts, however, I think the difference in quality is narrowing as time goes by. Software can do a lot now to make up for flaws in tracking and guiding in midrange mounts. Drivers are a lot more stable today too. There aren't as many issues with goto, especially if you are plate solving then slewing. So as long as you don't overload the mount and have decent balance and alignment I think most mounts are capable of amazing work. I'm still super happy with the CEM60 and use it regularly as time permits.

Four years on, how is your mount doing? Do you think you made the right choice?
@_Astrovert2 жыл бұрын
Yeah! I use it regularly, now with a 130mm Triplet, mono camera, filterwheel etc. Works great, guides between .5-.75 RMS. One issue with a control board but iOptron sent a replacement and no other issues. Pretty happy with it.

A couple of words for Losmandy mounts. One of the most important parameter is the periodic error, especially the rate of change of periodic error. Losmandy’s periodic error is very good and smooth. And you can press the touch buttons on the controller in gloves.

the first thing to evaluate before all the rest are the dimensions, the number of teeth, and the material (alluminium or bronze) of the two worm gears.

So where do you initially get the Position and Target position numbers?
@_Astrovert2 жыл бұрын
You normally position the focus tube all the way in and then zero it in the software to for the initial setup. Then you can pick any arbitrary position as long as there's enough room to move in and out to check the backlash.
@ScottCanoni2 жыл бұрын
@@_Astrovert During initial setup, how do you determine the max distance limit for the EAF so you don't hurt the EAF or your focuser? I knew my focus tube had a length of 42mm on the shaft so I extended to that, and used the current position as the max in the driver settings. Sound right?
@_Astrovert2 жыл бұрын
@@ScottCanoni Yes, that seems like it would work as long as the focus position number doesn't go negative when rolling it in as far as it will go. Ideally you'd want it at position zero when all the way in and at whatever the max number when all the way out.

Great way to check and correct backlash in daytime. I think that this method is some kind of rough backlash compensation setting but is easier and you dont waste night time doing the backlash analisis. Kudos!!! And thanks. I will try this today

I normally do mine near the target I'll be working on. I think the results would be better since the atmosphere, declination, refraction, etc would all be the same as where you're imaging.

If you watch the video from Celestron for the CGX they specifically talk about how the weight capacity of 55 pounds is actually pretty conservative and that it’s built to handle every ounce of that and they built it to actually handle a little bit more in case people push it the 50% rule for most of these systems isn’t really necessary manufacturers don’t typically double the realistic capacity it would only lead to poor performance and poor brand recognition
