The heel and the shank and the soul need to be solid, but the place in the metatarsal arch needs to be soft because there needs to be flexibility in the actual shoe. If you’re going to wear it it needs to bend so plastic would’ve been better for the top half of the shoe. They seem to be perfect for display though .

In your method, I would try thre darker( not too dark) pigment then lighter in layers. Trying to promote depth contrast. Love your work
