I have quite a few vintage fans myself and I use them daily. I have a 12 inch model that uses about 36 W of power on medium speed. These old fans are typically equipped with a permanent split capacitor motor, which works very efficiently. It was energy efficiency before that became a thing.

The Kirby 561 was built in 1961. It looks like your's has a Classic 1-CR shake-out bag and an aftermarket hose. Very nice machine. The newer plastic fans are an improvement over the aluminum, because they are lighter and more durable. I have the 519 made in 1959 and rebuilt it completely. I like your Tradition, also. The Super J is a great choice for floors and area rugs. I used to have a 1205 many years ago.

Small world. I had watched one of your vids awhile ago about how to use shake-out bags. Nice that you rebuilt your 519. Working on these machines is nice and not frustrating. I'm trying to remember how the 1205 was different. My SuperJ is stamped 1401. And yea, I've come to find the cannisters more practical when someone has both hard surfaces and some carpet, like I do.
@mattjones7621
@mattjones7621 Жыл бұрын
@@vap0rtranz There's not really much difference between the 1205 and Super J. They are designed similarly. I am more of an upright guy, but I do like some canisters. I have two Kirbys and a Royal. I don't use the Royal as much, because I mostly have hard floors and area rugs. I mostly toggle between my Kirby Diamond Edition and the 519. The 519 is smaller, lighter and easier to use. I use the hose attachments on my Diamond once or twice a week for crevices I miss or cleaning under narrow furniture. I also have a Dirt Devil hand vac for light messes and animal hair on the furniture.

@@mattjones7621 Yea, our older Kirbys are a joy to clean with because they're light and small. And not bad to look at either, hah! I still clean with mine once and awhile.

I have a trick for tire repair. As you put the glue inside the tire have a patch ready and you put a match to the glue vulcanizing the tire from the inside and then apply the patch and you have a brand new tire.

🎉Nice work. I picked up a similar Varsity from the ‘70s. Question to all. I hate a downward riding posture. I want upright. I have some wide, quality handlebars that will fit. Do you think the Varsity would look totally weird with an upright set up? And what about the brakes? Has anybody had experience with such a set up? Cheers … happy riding.

'SER. NO.' is 'Serial Number'. '60 Hz' is the frequency of main power that it will accept (this won't vary with fan speed). It would probably also run on 50 Hz, but the motor would eventually overheat. The worn screw hole indicates that the oscillating armature was likely connected at the wrong point in the arm's travel cycle at some point, which explains why it was bottoming out.

I have a Hunter Century c16 that sat on my Grandfather's desk in the military that I'm wanting to have restored or even attempt to restore myself. It works really well, moves all kinds of air! The head of the fan has a tilt option that seems stripped or badly worn because if not positioned just right it tilts all the way down. It is an oscillating fan but I've never tried that so not sure if it works properly or not. Other than that it needs cleaned and polished and a new power cord and it's good. Just curious if maybe you had any ideas on where to start looking for parts or for someone to restore it. Any help is appreciated, great video of a beautiful piece of history! Thanks

My mother saw a doctor because she was losing weight and had stomach pains. She was diagnosed with terminal cancer and was given 3 months to live. The news blindsided her, she kept saying, "but I have 6 kids, the house is a mess, I don't have time to die!" Once I reminded her that my older siblings needed to be picked up from school, and she covered herself with a pink knit blanket, curled up like Emma in this scene, and said "but I'm in heaven". We were late picking them up. It was such an unusual act from her that I never forgot it.

have you ever attempted to take off the back bullet of the fan to check to see if the oscillating part is greased well.. I have just acquired one of these a rescue from an old barn i was cleaning out for this lady... i can figure out how to take off the knob that makes it oscillate in order to drop down the bullet off the back of it to look at the insides.. the knob will not pull out when i take out its screw... any advice would be appreciated.. thanks..
@vap0rtranz
@vap0rtranz 5 жыл бұрын
Yes I have. My oscillating button had a screw from up top that had to be unscrewed while preventing the fan from oscillating, and then a tough pull up and out of the button. I ended up using a plumbers pliers with the screwdriver. After that, the bullet case could slipped off.

It’s not a detergent. No surfactants. It’s just a mixture of an acidic water softener and two alkaline water softeners. Plus salt. In solution, Boric acid is borax below pH 7. Above pH 7, boric acid becomes borax (in solution). They are in equilibrium. Concentrations depend on the pH. High pH -> borax. Low pH -> boric acid. Salt doesn’t soften water. It dissolves quickly, so isn’t an effective abrasive. It has no value here. Citric acid neutralizes borax and washing soda. The latter are bases. You end up with trisodium citrate. Problem with humidity? Borax is 47% water by weight. Use citric acid in the rinse cycle. Lemi Shine is citric acid. Citric acid is a good chelate for sequestering divalent cations responsible for spotting. Sounds like your research consisted of watching clueless housewife YT videos. Don’t quit your day job. You’re no chemist...
@vap0rtranz
@vap0rtranz 5 жыл бұрын
And don't quit yours. I'd never talk to you that way in person and expect the same on my KZbin page despite the use of a written medium. The point is: which substances would someone use to make their own dishwashing "stuff"? You sound knowledgeable but the only thing I got out of your reply is: 1. don't use salt 2. don't use boric acid (which I didn't) 3. do use citric acid So your dishes are dirty but spotless? What do YOU use?
@FrankGutowski-ls8jt
@FrankGutowski-ls8jt 5 жыл бұрын
vap0rtranz Make a video of your pooch doing clever tricks. Re clumping up. Borax sold to consumers is 47% water by weight. Leave it out and it won’t clump. It’s an old fashioned, not very good alkaline water softener. You don’t need it. Salt is NOT a water softener. Did I say that before? Well, it’s worth repeating. You should really open a chemistry book, and learn about your ingredients so you can speak authoritatively about them. That will set you apart from the hordes of clueless housewives who make these kinds of DIY videos.

Beautiful Bike. I own the same bike. My Mom and Dad bought it for me in 1968. But my serial #s show it to be a 1967. The price was around $78.00 with the chrome fenders. I don't remember chocolate being a color in that year. Mine is green. Please fix the valve stems, they need to come out of the rim at a 90 deg angle. I road as a kid what would have been cycle cross these days. The bike is indestructible. ENJOY what was one of the best bikes of its time. And I love it to this day. I have looked at $500 +$ Trex bikes and would rather have my old bike. And I believe the tires are not original. All the Schwinns had gum wall tires back then. ENJOY !!! Beautiful !!!

I had a new 1969 Schwinn Varsity. Sierra brown. I had every accessory on it. I used it for six years and put over 16,000 miles on it. The best bike I ever had. Yes, heavy and clunky but it was rock solid reliable. Bikes today are toys or junk in comparison. The #1 negative were the brakes. In the rain applying the brakes actually made the bike go faster!. This was solved with better brake pads. Ten or 15 speeds is workable and practical. Any more then that is just useless pandering to ego.

I have PS/2s but I don't use the mouse too often because i'm too lazy to refurbish it. If you want it I can refurb it (needs taken apart and cleaning, I may add new buttons underneath replacing with identical parts) to restore original sensitivity. Or you can take it as is, its a good mouse I just stopped using it! I use my Intellimouse Pro and Intellimouse 3.1 for old machines
