I would have died if I had continued under the care ofth se two named doctors. ThankGod for MD Anderson Cancer Center im Texas however, I owe the rest of my life to NYU Langone Cancer Treatment Centre. They are the BEST. I shall be forever grateful to to the experts who took over my treatment when I came to the realization as RN that those two doctors failed me. On my own I was left to navigate treatment for my non Hodgkin's Lymphoma. I could write a book about their treatment plan and patient doctor relationship.

Hi! Thanks for posting this. I am confused, it was mentioned that OS (overall survival) was 6.5 months but they also said that 50% get complete remission. I cannot fully understand, is there a chance to have a complete remission with such diagnosis? And live like 5-10-15 years after? Thank you!

Dr. Furman is exactly the kind of doctor he describes he wants to be in this video. He connects with his patients as if they are family -- and respects their input more than many other doctors I've seen. When it came time for me to make treatment decisions, I felt fully informed about my alternatives. He is very knowledgeable and will take the time to make sure you understand.

During the mid-late summer of 1986, I I started to develop some symptoms. It started with a very nagging dry cough, that my mother threatened to send me to a tuberculosis sanitarium. Then I noticed a swelling above my left collarbone, and I also had begun to have a fever of 101 degrees every afternoon , starting at 1:00 pm. I was very tired, and lost my appetite, and maybe about 15 pounds. About 7 years before that, my sister in law had some of the same symptoms, and was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma. I figured that’s what I had. I went to a local doctor, who was very nice. He scheduled me for a CT scan and a biopsy at a local hospital . I was sort of prepared that the biopsy would prove to be malignant, and that’s what the surgeon said to me in the recovery room. I went home, and started to make phone calls. My brother called my sister in law’s oncologist, who agreed to see me on Thursday (I later found out he never saw new patients on Thursday, but agreed to see me as a favor to my brother). Another brother drove me to his office in the lower level of a brownstone. Dr. Lacher was wonderful-he outlined exactly what his plans for me might be, after a few more tests. I had another CT scan, a lymphangiogram, a chest x ray, a bone marrow biopsy, and lots of blood taken. He also gave me a prescription for an old arthritis drug called Indocin, which he said would alleviate some of my symptoms , and he told me to come back in a week. At that next appointment, he outlined my treatment for Stage 2B modular sclerosing Hodgkin’s lymphoma. The B means that you’ve experienced symptoms such as fevers, night sweats, etc. My chemo treatment regiment would be TVPP (thiotepa, vincristine, prednisone, procarbizine), and I would have about 8 weeks of radiation treatments in the middle of treatments. All of my chemo treatments were administered in the doctor’s office by the doctor himself . He did have a lab tech who drew your blood, though. There were always other patients to talk to, which was nice, and plenty of sweets, particularly near the holidays. I did experience a premature menopause about midway through the treatment. I was about 34 at the time,. I lost some hair, not all, but it was during radiation and only on the right side behind my ear. When my hair grew back, my hair dresser noticed it was a different texture than the rest of my hair. My last chemotherapy treatment was on 9/28/87. So, I have been a survivor for just over 36 years, and as time has gone by, I look at how my life has changed. I became a teacher in NYC, and was able to retire a few years ago . I have premium free health care, and pretty good drug care when supplemented with Medicare. As patients are becoming long term survivors, they are developing other health problems that may or may not be related to their treatment . I have developed cataracts in both eyes at a relatively early age, probably due to all of the prednisone (steroids) I took during chemotherapy. I also experienced a decrease in thyroid function (hypothyroid) due to the radiation . I take a thyroid hormone pill daily. I experienced premature menopause, and I was probably through with that when I was about 40 or so. No treatment for that. I also developed asthma-the damage is mostly in my bronchial area, which was where the original growth was located. You know, it sounds bad, but all in all, I’ve had a pretty good life over these past 36 years. There have been ups and downs, but I think I’ve managed ok. You can do it too! I would recommend that you bring a notebook and pen to each doctors or clinic visit. If they say something you don’t understand-stop and ask questions. Tell the doctor that you would like to record his/her instructions on your phone. This way you won’t miss any important information. Sorry for this LONG note-I just wanted to let you know that other people have been through this, and that we are carrying the lantern to light the way for those that follow.

You speak far too frequently about the story and ignore the important aspect; the symptoms. Saying she had a neck mass, is really immature to clinical diagnostics. Was it a supraclavical node ? Was it a Lima bean sized node in the cervical chain that didn’t go down? Was it the size of a baseball? These are all very important for people who might not be aware of potential cancer symptoms. There are plenty of viruses that keep lymph nodes palpable permanently. But if it’s the size beyond a Lima bean, that’s the concern.

Do as much body/mind healthy stuff as you can. Stay TF alive! If you have a good support system all the better. I didn't. I had no one. But I intended to live. You must believe in that. I was a patient diagnosed with Peripheral T cell NHL in the year 2014. Location of the infected lymph node was Right Groin, which enlarged to lower abdomen. Peripheral T cell NHL diagnosed after excision biopsy. I got 7 Cycle CHOP and Radiotherapy. In September 2020 a PET-CT Scan done after I notice sever itching problem. PET scan showed an 70x51x70mm sized Anterior Mediastinal Mass with SUV max 11. Thoracic surgeon refused to operate the mass. A core biopsy and histochemistry done. Which shows an Intermediate grade Diffuse large B cell Lymphoma. CD20, BCL6 & MUM1 are positive. BCL2, CD3, CD5 & CD10 Negative. Bone marrow aspiration suggesting "Reactive marrow with myeloid hyperplasia and excess of lymphocytes. Before all these diagnosis I only faced itching problem. First symptom noticed in beginning of August 2019. Last 24-26th October I suddenly faced swallowing face. An echocardiogram of the heart on 27th October showing small amount of fluid buildup around my heart. LDH lifted to 366. My oncologists immediately suggest chemotherapy. The new chemo protocol is R-GCEOP. 1st Cycle started on 27th October and spited into 3 days. Rituximab, Cyclophosphamide, Gemcitabine, Etoposide, Vincristine, prednisone given. After 1st cycle chemo, face swallowing and itching removed significantly. We took part in a research project which involved a two day trip to Florida to the ALS Disease Centre, We had the opportunity to meet with Dr Odia, A highly recommended herbalist with scientific medicine. There is a lot to say about Dr Odia. I began healing herbs from Dr Odia, MD, who specializes in internal and pulmonary herbal medicine at ( Dr Odia Herbalist Home on Facebook). I would encourage anyone to seek a second opinion especially if they’ve been told there’s no hope. It’s also crucial to learn as much as you can about your diagnosis. Seek options. Find out about what’s out there that could help. Contact Dr Odia via: facebook.com/DrOdiathenaturopathic/ WhatsApp +17278553511.. He has a cure for Encephalitis, Herpes and cancer.

Weill-Cornell really does have an outstanding lymphoma program, should you ever have the misfortune of needing such a thing. I only wish I didn't live 3 1/2 hours away, but I know they will be there when the time comes. I saw Dr. Furman for a consult 5 years ago, and have to agree with the sentiments of the survivor in this video. This treatment team lives, eats and breathes lymphoma, and they are on mission, with the brainpower and resources to back it up.
