i pack stacks of ladders now for exactly that reason, while moving in space, when you place something it can actually still readjust the part between you pressing it and it attaching officially. your 'build on mount' idea is nice. plus if you mount, you can reset the root parts and remove parts that have become the 'root' by accident and cannot be removed unless attached to another ship
