I need to update this video. The V rated tyres were labelled on the side of the tyre as "Heavy Duty". I think this label was at least partly the cause of the harsh ride. I should have checked the tyre before they were fitted. The H rating did not have "Heavy Duty" written on the side and they were fine. I'm not sure if the V rated tyre, in this size, are available without the "heavy duty" label. If they are available without being "heavy duty" their ride *may* be okay also. In summary. I think it's worth checking the tyre fitter is fitting the correct speed rating tyres to your car. And also check if the tyres having "heavy duty" written on them. If you are towing a caravan you may need heavy duty tyres. If you are not towing/carrying heavy loads get the non heavy duty labelled tyres *if* they are available from the tyre manufacturer in the correct speed rating.

"Less RPM, and still maintaining the same speed" ? (1:20) I am not an expert, but you always get the same speed for the same RPM. No matter tuning.
@DriveTuneMedia5 күн бұрын
Yeah. You make a great point. My point was being able to drive in a bigger gear more of the time because the engine could pull it more easily vs without the tuning box. If that makes sense...

That’s exactly what I expected. I have used all season tires and they sucked (vredestein). I was trying to drive exactly same conditions as in this video. Changed to good year snow tires. Going uphill is like going on dry.

I've had CC2 on a heavy LR 19" for 2 years. Two winters. Good grip on snow way better than my old Perelli zeros. Did ok in the summer gas mileage about the same as before. Don't notice any road noise. I think the side walls might be a bit softer than the perillis but I don't hot rod it so don't really notice or care. Wear seems ok for the miles. No complaints. Great all around tire if you live in the north and have 4 seasons.

This is a confused review. How can you review an eco tyre and not measure the difference in fuel economy between it and the sports tyre?
@DriveTuneMedia5 күн бұрын
Great question. Honestly it didnt occur to me "Eco" was referring to fuel consumption. I thought it was the price because they were cheaper than the other Conti tyres.

The two tyres have different applications and as such should be treated differently

All electrodes are made from a nickel alloy. Some have copper cores that are only for heat transfer - does nothing for sparking - as the sparking occurs from the nickel alloy. Iridium & platinum plugs only have small pads of material welded to the nickel alloy. Also, NGK is the world leader and supplies to more manufacturers than Denso. Denso is currently losing market share.

Comfort? Heck mine rode smooth as silk compared to my last set. Only real negative was decrease in mpg and I'm estimating probably get about 50k miles after measuring with a caliper unless I wear them completely bald which is pretty decent and would definitely recommend.

Interesting review. Im looking to increase the mpg and tye life i get on my 635D and need ro replace rear tyres soon. I have 650 lb ft of torque and 420 hp i need good tyres on the back. At thebmoment i have pilot sport 5 which are great but they only lasted 15k miles and at £300 per tyre i think theres better options so im looking at the continental eco contact 6 as its supposed to be good for mpg and wear.

@pauladams567328 күн бұрын
The speed rating has nothing to do with the ride. The faster the rating, the better balanced the tyre. What will effect ride is the load rating, higher the stiffer the side wall. So, you start by saying the Crossclimates are unacceptable without any reference. I switch between Primacy in the summer to Crossclimates in the winter and notice zero difference in ride.
@DriveTuneMedia5 күн бұрын
EDIT: The V Rating were classed as "heavy duty". I think this is why they were so hard. The H rating werent rated "heavy duty". I think the key is "heavy duty" labelled tyres, they might be stiffer. Not sure if V rating is available without being "heavy duty"

@DriveTuneMedia24 күн бұрын
Yeah, I agree. They are not the best in the dry, damp or wet. But for me, the key point is they are good is most conditions and, for a tyre that is not a snow tyre, they do a good job in snow. They are a quality Swiss Army knife. Good at everything, not great at anything

I just bought these tires yesterday for my rideshare sedan vehicle in Northern California and so far, my passengers love the very comfortable ride! Granted it's only about 22.77°C here on dry roads with potholes here and there, they feel very good to me like I'm riding on a cloud! They definitely look alot more beefier than the Bridgestone Turanza Quiettrack I had on them before and to me, rides better then the Turanza! It will be on the colder side from now until about March next year so if they become uncomfortable in the high heat, I'll switch them out for something else just for the summer.

I had a cold air intake system installed in my 370z and it came with two large pre-oiled cone shaped K&N air filters. After about 30k miles I did a tuneup and inspected the filters, intake tract, MAFs and the throttle bodies. I saw no dirt past the filters, nor any oil film anywhere downstream of the filters. Two used oil analyses that I had done on the engine while the filters were installed showed no unusually high levels of silica(sand), hence the filters seemed to be doing a good job of air filtration.

I don’t think this guy understand the logic of wideband. Fuel is provided based on fuel maps. Wideband lambda is simply a closed loop and it keeps the car at optimal most economical setting in low load and cruise at 14.7 AFR or 1V Lamda. Under load car reverts to fuel map and give the car the fuel as per Fuel/Air map. So this statement is utter rubbish. Given the car can probably resist to higer boost and not cause any damage, but tunning boxes for sure cause lean operation. Stick it on the dyno or data log it and you will see😊
@DriveTuneMedia5 күн бұрын
" Under load car reverts to fuel map and give the car the fuel as per Fuel/Air map." The engine ECU uses the lambda (wideband) signal under ALL conditions to trim fuel to meet the AFR target for that RPM-LOAD-IAT-Coolant Temp-MAF signal condition.

i listened to your entire video and i dont know when you say unacceptable, whether you mean too stiff or too soft. which one is it? i have a porsche cayenne gts, a rather heavy vehicle with quite some power resources, and i can easily do the top speeds you are referring to. my thoughts are that this tire may be too soft. yes i know that depends on road surface. thanks -
@DriveTuneMediaАй бұрын
Hey. Short version. The load rating for the tyre was more than the car needed which caused the stiff ride. I changed to normal/car manufacturer recommended load rating, ie not "Heavy Duty" and the ride was normal.

@hoodedcreeper24652 ай бұрын
I could see progressive coilovers improving handling even if you arent lowering the ride height simply because of how the roll center changes throughout suspension travel. You could use them to compensate for the change in roll center. That being said, that still doesn't give you progressive damping. The best solution obviously for that is rocker arm suspension with rising rate geometry but that comes with its own problems
@DriveTuneMediaАй бұрын
You make a great point. If the valving is matched to the spring, prog springs on a coilover might be okay.

over here the V is the lowest speed rating you can get, but comes in the XL variant. The XL variants have more solid side walls so are stiffer tyres and that can be a problem for road noise and comfort. The W and Y ratings are the only other tyres, but they are 91 load rated and so have softer walls that take bumps easier.
