Am dealing with a overbearing manager that demands perfection at the moment, she also seems to have a vendetta against me, which everyone else sees, but no one wants to raise it
@CalmlyCoping4 күн бұрын
I'm sorry you're going through that! Having difficulty with a manager can be one of the biggest challenges at work, maybe you can raise the concern yourself, if you feel comfortable doing so.

10+ years ago I worked as a part time dishwasher and I had my own apartment, a social life, money in the bank, and time to spend my money or have some fun. I’ve lost most of those things in the years since and as time marches on they seem less and less attainable. It seems like they’ve been replaced by pain in my back, my ankles, and my mental state. It feels like a curse, but I know I’m not alone. Most of my coworkers at every job are in the same situation. Something needs to change in this country (the U.S.).

I feel like I’ve been burnt out for nearly 10 years and it’s only gotten worse in the last 5. In the restaurant industry, it’s virtually inescapable. But in addition to a restaurant job, I’ve had to pick up two other jobs just to pay the bills as everything becomes more and more expensive. Taking rest is impossible because rest/vacation = loss of money. Even if I do get a vacation I can’t relax because I’m constantly worried about bills. Life in the modern service industry is a prison. It sucks, man. I don’t know what to do anymore.

My biggest thing is sleep. For the past 6 months, I can count on one hand the number of times I've fallen asleep before midnight. Its time for change, and i think that this will be a great place to start.

I noticed I get anxious mostly when I know I SHOULD act a certain way but I don't, maybe because I don't even want to. For example: during lunch at work, I don't talk, and I feel anxious bc I feel like everyone is noticing that I don't talk and that I'm weird. And so, it's hard for me to distinguish if I feel anxious bc of the pressure I put on myself to be well-perceived by others, or if I genuinely don't want to talk bc their conversation is boring lol

sometimes the exact thing i need to relax and get my troubled mind off the things that are bothering me, are the same things i do when i am avoiding doing the things that need to be done. procrastination is my handicap. so then the cycle still continues. i feel good about the thing that im working on, but i hate myself for avoiding the things i should be doing. Your podcast is great BTW. thank you for taking the time to make them.

What first step can you take to help reduce overwhelm?
@RJones-tn5vg21 күн бұрын
The keyboard analogy explains so much. My job is intellectual. I do feel overwhelmed because ideas (and worries) are endless, but I usually feel better when I go offline and walk outside.

I really appreciate this video. There are a lot of videos pushing us to work and work, but for sensitive anxiety, that can lead to mental health issues and life problems. When I'm overwhelmed (probably from work), I work more to try and fix it, but that time and energy comes from something else. I'll probably listen more than once! Thank you.

Are you reading comments from 2 year old videos? :) I recently found your channel, I definitely have HFA. I wonder how well this corresponds to a Neuroticism trait in the Big Five model. My neruticism score was like 96% or some other ridiculously high number, so no surprise that I have HFA. Anyway, there were some good things you mentioned. I definitely struggle with number 2. When I get to start my work, I want to jump into immediately. Unfortunately if I do that, I will not do my physical training for the day, nor take time to reflect or journal. I just have the feeling that I want to be productive and want to show the boss and colleauges that I'm a good worker. As luck would have it, usually these are days where I work my butt off all day and have absouletly NOTHING to show for, excempt that I wrote like 20 emails so that is something. I do number 4 in a weird way. I say no to absolutely everything, only to change my mind and figure out a way to inconvenience myself somehow to be able to do that thing that I said no to. So basically, I say yes, but in a really complicated way. Have you ever heard about such a thing? Lastly, number 6 talked to me. I'm most negative when I'm tired, so, usually in the evening. I made some progress in this regard and I expect that I will have negative thoughts in the evenings, so I try not to pay too much attention. Anyway, I look forward to explore your content. I took the quiz as well. Thank you! I feel that someone gets me, and that doesn't happen that often.
