Nice video, like how you don't spend alot of time on any one thing. Got to your channel from Kevin's post. You should do a trip on the north shore, so much to see. I live on the south shore and know the lake well, number one rule, the lake makes all the calls.

Very nice trip report, and wow, what great fishing! My wife and I ran the Pukaskwa River this past May, then paddled back to Hattie Cove. It looks like you had more wind than we did! We got stuck in English Fishery Harbour for a day. I regret not stopping to explore Pukaskwa Depot. We did explore the old logging camp at Lafleur's Dam, but there wasn't much left, just depressions in the ground from the cabins.
@gonecampingagain Жыл бұрын
Thanks @gunnelgrabber! The fishing was excellent anywhere we tried. The worst wind of our trip was when we tucked into the white river for 3 days. In hindsight, it would have been interesting to see how big the waves got, but it was nice to not be stranded as well. The Pukaskwa depot was interesting, we looked around for an hour or 2. Mostly what you described, old house depressions, old wood stoves, pots, timber, I have heard there is a cemetery somewhere as well too

Very sweet little trip, and beautiful video, thanks for sharing! This place is so magical that it's about the only place that I I'll tolerate dealing with tons of people. These site numbers must be the old numbers, so site 29 (now 62) must be the infamous "Mouse Island" on OSA lake then? Were you not overrun by mice during your stay there?

Thanks for sharing the video especially the sections showing the various rapids and swifts. I ran from Park Lake to Oxtongue Lake last year as a day trip but tomorrow I head back to do the same trip you did in this video likely starting at Tim Lake Dam and ending at Oxtongue Lake. I noticied in the comments that you were going to take some whitewater training this year. Did you take it and if so how did it work out (I will check your video list to see if you've answered in a video already). Subbed and liked.
@gonecampingagain2 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks for your comment! That's great to hear, how did your recent trip back to the oxtongue go for you? Yes, we took white water training this June with Andrea and Hap on the Lady Evelyn in Temagami. I would recommend it if it's in your budget, it helped us improve greatly. More importantly the course laid the skills so we can continue to improve as we go out. (I have a quick highlight video with some of this seasons white water clips in it that's uploading currently to youtube, I imagine it will be posted within a day, there's a few clips in there from the training, and another river trip we just did over the weekend. I'm editing our summer trip videos and will have them out soonish when completed!

You should go binge watch Lettice Rowbotham until you can't stop smiling. She's an expert at turning frowns upsidedown. Her fans think she's the worlds best antidepressant and I agree. @@pakumar7921 I hope Lettice has worked her magic on you. Not that it's really magic. She is a spellbinder but she isn't practicing witchcraft. Her overwhelming joy and love takes her fans over, after affecting her, and puts them in her frame of mind. She walks around in a higher state of consciousness than most people. She raises us to her level of consciousness. That's magic in my book but it's not sorcery. Lettice loves life to the max and that's contagious.

Wow! another amazing adventure. Loved the howling at the stars. The days did look pretty cold, especially during the white outs with all the wind. The cook did an amazing job and it looked like you both had fun making the best of a challenging season especially with getting the firewood. Those mornings looked absolutely fringed. In those temps, the toughest part of the day is unzipping your sleeping bag in the AM. Hats off to the fire-maker for crawling out of his warm sleeping bag and getting the tent warmed up. Some truly wonderful memories in the great white North! Congrats Ross & Elise!

Cool video; thanks for sharing. Wondering...how do you recharge your camera batteries during a long trip like this? I did a somewhat similar trip, solo inflatable SUP adventure, for only 4 days and pretty much used all my batteries. Looking for a solution. Thanks :)
@gonecampingagain2 жыл бұрын
Glad you enjoyed Rick! To keep the film gear going I would recommend the following: 1) A power bank to recharge your batteries. I have 4 in different sizes depending on trip length. A good starting point would be the Anker 20100mAh. www.amazon.ca/Portable-Charger-Anker-PowerCore-20100mAh/dp/B00X5RV14Y/ref=sr_1_4?crid=11U84C9TUOZX9&keywords=anker%2B2000%2Bbattery%2Bbank&qid=1650836467&sprefix=anker%2B2000%2Bbattery%2Bbank%2Caps%2C73&sr=8-4&th=1 2) I have 6 batteries for each camera (this trip was shot on a gopro and 5 batteries I believe, with x2 20k power banks) 3) I have picked up a solar panel for some longer trips this year to recharge the power banks and gear. I would choose to have large power banks already before adding a solar panel as it's more situational. Hope this help! R

dam beaver dam...I'm planning for my 1st Algonquin kayak fishing trip and I'm thinking if I should try Norway Lake as it's a remote lake but seems accessible...just not sure if I will be able to go across the beaver dam :P any recommendation? By the way, great adventure!
@gonecampingagain2 жыл бұрын
Lol dam beaver dams! Norway lake is very accessible. Avoid the beaver dam under the highway bridge by unloading at the side of the road. Bring gear to creek, then drive car to the parking lot for the Spruce boardwalk and walk back to gear at creek. That was the only large beaver dam until Norway (There's several small ones we just paddled over). The other large one was dividing Norway from Fork lake. I don't think you would have any issue getting to Norway lake with the beaver dams the size we paddled through (unless the beavers make them taller!). Norway will be fairly remote, low campsite numbers (2), just be aware the visitor center is on a hill looking over part of the sunday creek. Norway is a great spot to check out, another consideration for kayak fishing could be Rock lake. If you wanted to be alone echo bay and by the dam's are pretty isolated. I found the islands sites on rock lake very nice beside picto bay (Pictograph site). Glad you enjoyed our video. Good luck on your trip! R

That was very enjoyable. You two are great. A solid hour of quality footage ... and no "30 seconds of every minute" focused on you nostrils 😄. I hope that they ease off on the drone restrictions in parks, as many more people can enjoy something they would not otherwise see. The Parks staff can go for a joyride in a plane anytime they want, but the rest of us cannot enjoy the same aerial experience unless we spend big bucks to hire a plane.
