Gold GTi Mk1 came out before the 205 GTi. Even the Golf GTi facelift came before the 205. Bit odd to do a review of a car and get basic facts wrong.

Well VW do that all the time claiming to have invented the hot hatch category first. Sadly Renault did that and then VW also claim to have invented the hatchback full stop. Renault 16 did that in 1962!

I had a Red 1989 'F' plate Nova SR in 1990 and owned it for 10 years until it got hit up the chuff by a Nisan Bluebird and got written off - gutted!

I owned and drove exactly the same model in 1990 in germany, ok steering wheel on the left side, but aside from that, the same car. I was 19 !! F-ing 19 years old and i have no clue, i survived this car. The reason i stop driving it, was my Turbo Charger blow up twice and i run out of money..... but hell...that was the best 12 month driving a car in m whole life LOL..... now i am 52 and take the train :-(

Those seats are not from a GTI, are from a GTX. The GTI seats had leather in the sides and in the center were grey, white and with a straight vertical red line.

they are the correct seats for the 1.6, your talking about the 1.9 seats in uk spec

Love these cars I had a 1600 gti when I passed my test the pug was fantastic remember driving down the m3 at 0600 it had so much torque it was fun this was the king of hatchbacks in the early 90s but you had to try and keep these pocket rockets away from the boy racer thieves leading to a hug insurance bill which finished my pug days

Keep seeing 👀 the little 205 gti on channels latey, iv owed nine pugs & still drive one now, a 106quiksilver gti so the last 20 years been driving these cars! Must b the pug bug I have! 🤔

Lovely motor.. those recaro seats are actually out of a MK4 90spec escort rs turbo. XR2i recaros have piping around the bolsters and rear pockets, the grey fabric on the bolsters are textured rather than a smooth fabric.

Good video and beautiful example! But I think the 612 replaced the 456 as part of the 2+2 V12 line of cars. The 550 replaced the 512M as part of the 2 seat V12 line of cars. They made the 456 from 1992 through 2003, and the 550 from 1996 through 2002.

Had the 1.6 and 1.9 ... and to be honest, i was dissapointed ... the car didnt feel like a real GTI ... the missing interior quality esp. the dash board wasnt my piece of cake ... even then 1.9 was a lame duck ... i only loved the design of the car which was miles ahead of any other GTI that time ... better to go with the 309 GTI 16V ... but ey, the girls loved the 205 and still do ;-)

205 GTi was definitely a good hot hatch. But better than a EP3 Civic? Better than a Golf MK1 GTi? Clio 182?

@@scbond I owned all the above at some point (and more). The 205 was definitely fun but the EP3 will always be my favourite. 8500rpm redline is addictive and the 6 speed box helped keep the revs up. The 205 was good and better than Ford or Vws attempts at the time. Yet wasn't as fun as some of the smaller turbo stuff like the R5 or uno turbo. Everyone has a good argument for their favourite hot hatch though.

Great car....I run one on a shoe string .... it is possible , compared to newer ones it is still a simple thing , with a big engine!

Jesus this Pearl white gt turbo gets about I worked on that car 6 years ago when it was in Ireland did a lot of welding to it new inner and outer sills jacking points rear bumper mounts etc

That sounds like only 50% of this 5GTT is still original the rest is sheet metal welded on and painted over.

Seems absurd. I remember passing my test in 97, and about a year or so later looking around at these and the trusty old xr2’s and they were both plentiful in supply and most for around £600. Crazy to think how few are left.
