@rawrfishing a question about braid: in the interest of budget I bought 20lb yozuri super braid from Walmart. Is this decent line for bfs or do I need something thinner diameter? I believe it's .009in
@rawrfishingКүн бұрын
If u are UL fishing.. That is thick. If you are bass fishing... It could be thick... But then again bass bfs anglers didn't really use PE lines until recently. They always used Fluorocarbon 6 to 8 lbs. As long as your PE line is not thicker than your 6 to 8 lb leader material, it's good in my books. I use 0.8 gou to 1 gou for bass when fishing with leader. For UL bfs.. I use 0.4 to 0.6 gou diameter

Bfs is a Shimano trademarked marketing term. But the community took it and called all same style finesse bc reel bfs. Daiwa is smart... They call it BF, for bait finesse... For their models. As a consultant, I have warned every brand not to use the term bfs... KastKing did not listen. Bates listened. Ark said they will change it. Cashion didn't listen. Not hilarious yet... Until Shimano comes for blood. They can technically sue everyone, and that's when it will be hilarious

i'd expected the casting was bad when i saw the PE line. Japan bait finesse reel are best with Flouro Line from 8lbs - 10lbs (Japan brand Lines) it is made for that reason. 6'4" or 6'6" 1/8 - 1/2oz rod is recommended though. US lines are thicker. A 7lbs line would be like using a 14-16lbs line. With the curren set-up PE line with 7lbs Line wouldn't bring out the BF reels potential. I recommnd giving another review using only a Japan brand flouro or Nylon, you'll actually see the biggest difference. Before anyone would disagree lol. Bait Finesse reels was made for people who wanted to try using light worms but not interesed on investing on spinning reels. and "YES" its a common knowledge here in Japan from Kanto to Kansai region.

Hey! Thank you for watching! I would love to hear more about how Japanese use Bait Finesse I Japan! That said, thank you for sharing. I am aware that not only reels are made to use Fluorocarbon, but the reel does day it supports PE. So I am glad PE is working well. What I personally have experienced is that Bait Finesse rods from Japan are made specifically for fluoro when it comes to bass fishing. They are generally stiffer, which can make setting hooks difficult with thin PE line as you may snap line. I personally use Japanese lines. Using Varivas here! But yes! I will be using fluoro as a test since I am exploring more JDM BF rods for bass fishing. This is something I will do when the ice thaws out. Like your video I currently have the corado bfs reel but looking for a good rod for hover strolling can you recommend one for this technique Thanks Randy
@rawrfishing6 күн бұрын
I use either a UL or L power rod, really depends on the thickness of the line you use and how light u throw. but overall, both should have somewhat of a faster tip to jiggle the lure. if im fishing super shallow and super light weight lures, I would use 4lb fluoro line and so I would want an UL rod. Highly recommended for the super clear waters. If im fishing closer to mid strolling, bottom strolling or if I am doing spine rigging with a bit heavier weights, I would use 6lb line and I would use a L power rod. I normally use a L power rod and 4-6lb fluoro since my water. Do note that using too thick of a line, it may not roll, especially the lighter weights. I have been using the Major Craft Benkei L power one, Tsurinoya Dexterity L power and the Kuying Teton L

Would be nice if he would cast into the dark section of water where the trees are reflected in it, so maybe we could actually see where it's hitting the water instead of having to take his word for it. I try my best to count how many times he cranks to reel it in, and the number of cranks seems to match up pretty well with the distance he estimates.

@@rawrfishing No offense, it's just that I watched a how-to BFS video where the host claimed to be casting 70-80 feet on a grass lawn After about ten casts he stepped off the distance and even with him taking noticeably short steps he only got to 18 steps, which means he probably wasn't making it 50 feet. That was one of the first BFS vids I watched and it must have traumatized me. 🙂 I've always favored the smaller side of fishing, that is, smaller hooks, tackle, line, lighter rods etc, (I'm also a longtime fly fisherman) and when I found out about BFS a few months ago I knew I had to get in on it. With all that said, I just ordered the same rod you used in this vid from your site, Bait Finesse Empire. I've looked at a lot of the big fishing sites and the true UL BFS rods with the action I want are usually too many $$$. Amazon has a few that are in the ballpark but they all seemed like I was compromising something, and I wasn't as impressed with them as I was with the way you were dominating the pond with the rod you used. It looked like just the right blend of length, backbone, and tip action to be a great BFS rod for my purposes. I just received my Curado BFS XG the other day (left handed...high five!), because I'm a lifelong Shimano reel fan after 40+ years of using their spinning gear. I've been keeping my eyes open for a good rod to go with it. It's my first BFS reel, fifth baitcaster. I just started using baitcasters two years ago, and I also have a Curado 200, an SLX DC 151, a Daiwa Tatula 100, and a $45 Abu Garcia Max X, which was my first one. I'm looking forward to receiving my rod so I can rig it up and get outside to do some practice casts. The temperature has been a roller-coaster here in Wisconsin so far this winter with highs from 7-35F depending on the day. We have almost no snow on the ground right now, so casting on the lawn for ten minutes at a time is doable if it's a "warm" day. Thanks for the vid and for pointing me toward just the rod and price point I was looking for. If all goes well with my rod purchase, you'll have a customer for life.
@rawrfishing6 күн бұрын
Not offended at all. When I first started making these videos, I did focus on trying to estimate casting distance for viewers. once in a while, I will count the number of cranks, but it's still fairly inaccurate since manufacturers give you the IPT/CPT when the spool is maxed, but as an UL enthusiasts on BFS, we don't even get close to max spool! We limit our line to keep the weight low and thus, there's no way to really get the distance unless I want to roll out some tape or use a tool to count the line. But in todays videos, I hardly measure anymore as BFS isn't really about casting distances, but I get it.. We still need some sort of casting distance to say BFS is worth it. So some reels will, you will see me count some cranks, but my recent videos focuses on exploring the brakes behavior and seeing the range of lures it casts with specific rod and line spooled on. BFS rods are very interesting. Most American BFS rods are geared towards bass fishing right now. Most of my BFS rods and videos are more for multispecies and throwing lighter lures. This one is an Aji style rod, stiff rod tip for imparting motion. It is also fragile so don't boat flip anything :P If you can tell me more about what lure ranges you are trying to cast and what your fishery is like, I can share with you rods I currently use for that fishing. I got bass rods, multispecies rod, trout rod and even inshore finesse rods for BFS reels!
