Jimmy, i live in South Africa and fish mainly for bass only. I have dropped 3 phones...in the water so far and one was only a week old on a new contract. You can imagine what my wife said when i got home. Now i take an old phone with just a prepaid simcard for photos... Stunning videos. I must say that finesse fishing has not really taken off where i live as the private farm dams i have access to as a teacher has a LOT of grass in them here in Northern KwaZulu-Natal and any line lighter than about 14 pounds will break. I fish straight camo braid from 30 to 50 pounds on casting setups. We are not allowed to fish for trout with spinning or casting combos. You must use fly rods and reels. We also release all the fish we catch. Tight lines to you guys up north. Our fishing has picked up nicely since around mid August. I caught a nice 2.8kg bass and a 2.2kg on15 August. Now we need rain as the dams dry.
@rawrfishingАй бұрын
thanks for sharing with us your fishery! yeah phones being dropped in the water is no fun! happened to me a few times but i found em all, luckily! I have a lot of fly fishing only zones as well in the States. I get it that fly fishing culture is all about catching and releasing using tiny barbless hooks while ppl who use casting setups or spinning setups, may be using lures nasty treble hooks! those would beat em trout up really good. they roll all over in the net and tear their mouth apart :(

BFS has made lure fishing interesting again for me. I have some good rh reels, but I’m looking for a lefty for small stream fishing and smaller lures. I don’t need another SS Air or Aldebaran (too expensive), and your series of videos is selling me on this Ark reel.
@rawrfishing23 күн бұрын
with all those smaller lures and super fancy ones from Japan coming over, it can get very fun exploring! Ark's been my go to since I made the proclamation that this reel will be the best in is class for 2-3 years in the US market. 1 year has passed and im still correct! Let's see what happens in 2025!

I retried my fly setups too. I prefer the ability to twitch a rod over stripping line. And I tie my own flies too... Which translated to tying jigs when going to bfs. I am happy with bfs and also happy to push bait finesse in the fishing community. But I will always respect what folks choose and I hope that ppl will stop saying.. Just use a fly rod or spinning setup lol

I wish we had a lot of trout around me. I live 5 miles from Lake St. Clair in Michigan, and it's known as the small mouth capitol of the world! There are rivers around me, but there isn't a lot of public access to them. If I ever get better, maybe I'll take a trip somewhere. I really want to catch a rainbow trout one day. In the mean time, I'll have to settle for catching bluegill and sunfish on the Trout Magnet.

If one of the major brands makes a reel for about the same price as a newer product, I have always chosen the known commodity. For example, I would tend to pick a $100 Daiwa or Shimano over a $100 Piscifun, Kastking, etc. I guess my question is this: is spending the extra $15 for an SLX BFS a better investment than choosing an Ark Gravity? I like your channel and respect your opinions, so I’m deferring to the expert.
@rawrfishingАй бұрын
The two reels do two different things since the spool size are different. Yes Shimano is gonna feel better... But it won't cast a slow without an aftermarket spool. So if ur purpose is UL light what I am doing here.. Ark out of the box does it! But if you wanna throw 3 grams and up, the larger bfs spool that slx sports will be better! Cheers

The one I have, is okay. It's unique compared to others as u can just use the knob like a normal BC reel. That said... Why not use normal braking reel? I feel that DC reels are not always consistent. But I haven't put enough time on the loongze reel. Maybe soon?

@rawrfishingАй бұрын
I was not a fan for Shimano 28mm spool reels. Going smaller spool helped them throw lighter lures, but their reels go some quirks and somewhat under braked, making it difficult for users to dial in. If you don't need to throw under 2g, curado bfs would be the better choice. Feels more refined and if you are throwing heavier lures for distance, it would certainly out cast the new smaller spool reels.
@TUFFBASSАй бұрын
@@rawrfishing thanks for the quick reply! I have a KastKing Kestrel Elite and want to upgrade. Was looking at the Curado BFS.
@rawrfishingАй бұрын
You are welcome. I think having the curado in your arsenal will allow you to experience what KastKing wanted to copy, the Shimano ftb braking system. I. Addition, if you plan on using it on a L or ML rod, it will cast so much further than the KE due to the spool size diameter difference!

Is the PE main line a requirement for casting distance on Trout Magnets or other super light lures on this setup? Just wondering if you could back with braid as well.
@rawrfishingАй бұрын
Yes. U don't wanna back anything up that much as that will add weight to the spool. Check out my video via the end screen as I talk more about this setup.
@markbull2759Ай бұрын
@@rawrfishingAwesome, I’ll give that one a look! Thanks!
@rawrfishingАй бұрын
I would love to find a larger diameter spool bfs that can handle trout magnet. But I have found that larger spools will dispense too much line per rotation and end up over spooling.
@markbull2759Ай бұрын
@@rawrfishingMy initial question was actually due to the fact that I didn’t realize that the PE line you linked actually IS braided. 😂 I think I’d be fine with the setup you have here and am actually planning to buy all of the pieces for some small stream trout fishing.
@rawrfishingАй бұрын
Lol... PE stands for Polyethylene, material for each individual strand of line and braided together to form the fishing line that Americans called braided line. PE is way shorter to type, since I answer a lot of comments and DMs. You will enjoy this setup! Perfect for streams!
