Here's the basic story behind 2112. Their record label Mercury wanted them to do radio friendly songs. This was a protest. They said we're not doing this for you. We're doing it for us. So they made the first half of the record all one song (kinda) and gave them the finger and created this MASTERPIECE This is the story of that battle. Neil Peart, after he joined the band, wrote all of the lyrics to Rush music. We lost our GOAT. He's playing for GOD now. 😇That was the last time I cried (Sorry Christine. When Stevie goes I'm going to lose it) I'm jealous because you have the cool earphones like I had with my old turntable in the day. Now all I have is my little computer speaker. There is a video that has the cool graphics telling the story, in the 1970s we were hit with both barrels(3?) with this, and only our imagination. " Listen to my music". "Hear what it can do". "Tere's something here as strong as life". "I know it will reach you." Thank you so much for making this GOAT enjoyable again. Happy belated 4/20.

@@Mintis-bh4rr Oh yes I remember! Yeah that's usually how it goes, it's a really good band. Any particular favorite albums or songs?
@Mintis-bh4rr14 күн бұрын
@@UntitledtotheGrave I really like still life ghost reveries and MAYH! (Other than BWP). Deliverance damnation watershed and morningrise are also really good. From the newer stuff I like pale communion the most. What about u?
@UntitledtotheGrave14 күн бұрын
@@Mintis-bh4rr Those are all great! Yeah I like them all one way or another and my favorites tend to change from day to day even, but I think I tend to listen to Blackwater Park, Deliverance and Ghost Reveries the most when I'm at the gym, and that's where I tend to listen to a lot of music. Heir Apparent has probably gotten to be my favorite song by them right now. Hessian Peel is overall one of, if not their best song I'd say, even though as I read a comment say a while back, the last growling verse part does seem a little forced almost to me.

@@UntitledtotheGrave oh dude I fucking love heir apparent. def one of their best songs. and hessian peel has grown a lot on me. also really loving Wreath rn.
@UntitledtotheGrave14 күн бұрын
@@Mintis-bh4rr Wreath is really underrated imo, I love the solos especially. I actually met Mikael at Jethro Tull, as I think I said in this video, and in hindsight I really should've told him to play Bleak sometime more. That is the first song that I got hooked on. Been listening to that one since around 2016 or something. But I didn't really start digging in their discography until 2022, and been loving them ever since.

It’s interesting , for 40 years I had my own images of what this song meant. I was happy with that. Then I saw the animated video and it kind of ruined my own internal story. While the video is well done, I also kind of hate that it codifies the story, from a visual standpoint.

"Attention all planets of the Solar Federation!" 7 words repeated 3 times =21 "We have assumed control!" 4 words repeated 3 times = 12 Also worth noting is that 2112 is 9:12 PM in 24-hour format, and 9-12 (September 12) was Neil's birthday. As for where to go next, that piece you heard at the end was the intro to "A Passage To Bangkok," one of the several hidden gems on Side 2 that I, for one, would like you to hear next. I had seen them in late 1974 before FBN or COS were released, & was impressed with their musicianship, with the limited playlist they had at that time! 2112 opened me up to appreciate FBN & COS so much more! Then they just kept getting better & better! FTK & Hemisperes were both amazing!

What can one say about PT. I discovered c. 2018 and have now bought most their albums + DVDs... yes, start with their early stuff (rather Pink Floyd influenced) and go thru the discography. You won't be disappointed! And also, there is another band, sort of similar to PT. The Pineapple Thief (TPT)... turn down metal 1/2 notch, turn up ballads 1/2.... and, their drummer is the awesome Gavin Harrison. Decent pre-Gavin album "All the Wars", then with Gavin: "Your Wilderness". These are excellent albums. A sample? Track 1 from All the Wars, "Burning Pieces" - will not let you down - Excellent! :) Have fun!
