Not exactly true. All of them were perfectionists in everything they did. They were at the cutting edge of the equipment boom and everyday was Christmas to Geddy Lee. Their pride was to be first, best, and the ability to also do it all live. Which wasn't very common back then, most live acts couldn't replicate their studio recordings live due to production and live equipment at the time. Something they just couldn't do. Rush made it a conscious effort to be able to play everything they wrote in a live setting. They took pride in all of that. You'll hear what's on that album, live every time.

Geddy uses foot pedals to play the base when he's on the keys

...and vice versa, too. On the Xanadu live video (Exit Stage Left) you see him playing synth with his feet, playing bass with his hands, and then starts singing at the same time. Jeez...

When you hear synth while Geddy is playing the bass, he is playing it with his feet.

They use a lot of Taurus pedals to play either certain synth parts of bass parts. Alex also uses them at times. In some cases the pedals are used to trigger backing tracks but mostly it’s so geddy can move between bass and synths.

An anthem for the people who just don’t fit in! For those who could not get a high school prom date! Circa 1982, Geddy plays base, keyboards and synthesizer foot pedals! Oh ya! He sings too!

All of the guys in Rush grew up in the suburbs and all of them felt like they didn't fit in. As to your question. Actually Geddy plays the bass and keys at the same time using moog pedals he plays with his feet during live performances. Alex also plays moog pedals as well. A few favourites The Trees official music video (70's ). Digital Man from the Snakes and Arrows tour (80's) Stick it out official music video (90's) Caravan from the Time Machine Tour (2000's) Four songs from each decade. Also, Rush videos usually don't get blocked by KZbin. Cheers

Thank you! Interesting. Yes I thought so but unfortunately this one did. Maybe because it was an official music video 🤔

Yes he plays both....on the Bass parts he plays bass pedals with his feet when playing the synth parts.

No backing tracks, as such. Taurus pedals are used by Alex and Geddy, and all three of them trigger samples, at various times. Watch Subdivisions live, to see how it's done... Xanadu live, from exit stage left 1981, is a good prog track.

“The Moog Taurus is a foot-operated analog synthesizer designed and manufactured by Moog Music. It was originally conceived as a part of the Constellation series of synthesizers. The initial Taurus I was manufactured from 1975 to 1981, followed by a less popular redesign, Taurus II, followed from 1981 to 1983. Instead of a conventional keyboard, the Taurus uses an organ-style pedal board similar to the pedal keyboard of a spinet organ. This control method was chosen because the Taurus was intended to be played by foot while the player's hands played one or more keyboards, although it was often used by guitarists. While the original Taurus featured its own synthesis engine, the Taurus II was essentially the same as the Moog Rogue.” vikkipodia

It's really fun watching Geddy Lee multitask on bass, keyboard and pedals in their live performances. I suggest checking out their live version of 'Jacob's Ladder' from the R40 tour.

Geddy has legs/feet which he uses to play bass/keys as relevant simultaneously when required maybe even whilst singing!

Moog Taurus Pedal Synth. Both Geddy and Alex played them. The only band I know that all members used all four limbs to create their music!

No backing tracks, ever. When Geddy switches from bass to synth, he can sustain the bass line with his feet, with the Taurus pedals. The Taurus pedals are sometimes reassigned to higher frequency sounds when he’s too busy playing bass guitar to play keys.

Natural science live. No keyboards but I think Neil is plaing triggers with his left foot.

Also the physical subdivision, a term used in North America, referring to neighborhoods in the suburbs. Generally standard houses laid out in very generic neighborhood patterns. Boring, all the same, and pre-fabricated. Nice for parents but often boring for the teens, so no wonder they want more out of life. The song is great social commentary.
