I agree with Nabeel. The American way is hyper individualism, whereas our culture emphasizes respect for our parents and family first

I am absolutely SICK to my stomach right now. HOW can anyone be so CALLOUS I can't even wrap my mind around this. ESPECIALLY from a freaking COP!! You are supposed to PROTECT people, not hit them with your car and then laugh that she flew over the windshield! I hope no one ever does this to someone YOU love ahole cop! The Laughing Officer Daniel Auderer is Vice President of the Seattle police Association guild Union And has cost my city $1.7 million in lawsuit ( a Rotten apple ) Rest in peace Jaahnavi Kandula 🙏

“I don’t even go here” -Maryam 😂 On a serious note, there were so many good points that were made, especially about maintaining relationships, individualism, and teaching our kids Arabic. Also those cookies look 🔥

It’s soooo lovely that YOU don’t think the texts are abusive. Cause it’s totally up to you and not the person who’s on the receiving end of it 🙄

It’s not vengeful for her to release those messages. And if an abuse victim wants to come out even 10 years later, she can do that too. And she IS an emotional abuse victim. Super irresponsible of you guys to frame it like that. Also surfing with men IS her job. Hopefully Maryam doesn’t ask you to stop going to the office cause there’s women there 😕

Enjoying your podcast so far and have always appreciated how real you guys are. One recommendation I have is to maybe incorporate pre-selected questions throughout the conversation so it has more of a flow. I think it will help the conversation to stay on tangent and have more of a direction than just a long open conversation about one topic. I hope that feedback is helpful. Wish you and your family all the best!

I have to agree with your husband. We have to support our kids, protect them and raise them confident but when i think about it alot of the experiences with difficult people and difficult Situation is what teach them confidence and strength. We have to let them face somethings themselves and fail and learn .. which is a difficult task for parents to stay out of it and trust kids to learn to handle themselves

It's great to follow and connect to people (albeit virtually) at a similar stage of life raising kids of similar age group and navigating through parenthood. Thank you for this space. Great job both of you for keeping it so real.

I have to say I agree with Nabeel on this one. There are all types of people from different walks of life and not everyone thinks and acts the same way as us, so one of the best things we can teach our kids is resilience, while of course making sure they know they will always have a safe space with us 👍🏽

I love this set up of you two after hours with the comfy clothes and cup of teas. Many of us are parents and are probably also listening to this after putting the kids to bed, in our little moment of solace. Loving this vibe ❤

Honestly ther r bigger battles and compromises to make then what u address elders. The reason why in laws want u to call them mom and dad is because one they r like ur parents (obv they will prob never b 100% ur parents) and two is because its out of respect simple. We call other relatives mamu cachu khala but we dont feel weird saying that we dnt call them by names cuz its respect. The other thing i agree women has way more expectations on them then men and also inlaws own childern arent obliged to follow those expectations and i think thats were women get frustrated because it hypocrisy.. women def take alot more heat, and in laws jst want their daughter in law to do everything their way, they dont give due space, every relation needs time to become good and let women do what they want cuz at the end of the day they are allowed to create the home and space they want

I agree with Nabeel. Pakistani enough is a societal construct - what is it exactly? American pakistani Muslim is a hybrid identity created by 1.5 and 2nd generation immigrants. they are a strong voice. Because you are born in Pakistan does not make you a superior Muslim or human. Remember nationhood is an imaginary concept - losing significance i a globalized world

I don’t think you should be forced to call your in laws mama and papa. Only saying this because I passed through this exact same thing and it felt like a lot of pressure was on me. And this is an expectation in-laws have from women, but not from men

This was great..and a much much needed conversation to be had. Particularly touching on the differences about life experiences we ourselves have had married and as parents versus what or how our parents grew up and were raised and were taught about marriage. My mom would also before and even during my marriage so many times if I would share anything personal with her about something I was feeling or dealing with would automatically pin her life experiences onto me and subconsciously I felt it deeply and it started affecting some of the decisions I made in my marriage. If not my mom then my khala would intervene and she would just say a statement and just end with it "you don't know we have experienced life beta", we know exactly what we are talking about. You're just a child. Yep just little old me married with 2 kids but knows absolutely nothing is what I was perceiving from my elders advice or wisdom. Now when I look back at it, I'm just like how did I just take that information or advice and take it so literally? Currently though I call some of that engrained cultural behavior out amongst the elders because there are new couples being made into the family with my cousins and all and I just feel like if it doesn't stop it will become a cycle. And so now I speak up and speak out respectably of course always. Because as it turns out I was dealing with a narcissist (now) ex husband and I was conflicted in so many ways and was in denial until I finally just made the decision to bow out for the sake of my kids.

Yes keep them longer. I enjoyed listening to this. Particularly to the topic of how we address our in laws. Ok my family, my SIL and parents clashed so much. All because she wouldn’t address them by anything Like nothing. Not even uncle or Aunty. It started a massive fight and things went downhill from there.!

Love this, thanks for sharing! As a beginner, what is the correct way to reach out to creators like yourself? Should I just ask for your rates or work together or is it appropriate to ask for your media package? Curious how it works for small businesses since their budget won’t be the same as major/well-known brands.

A woman raises children and puts herself aside including her career and dreams. So a man should be the main one responsible for finances. People have problems supporting families because majority are giving too much and sacrificing their own families needs

Nabeel & Maryam! Thank you for amplifying us too! Also, so much of this resonates-- people's perceptions of us that we won't ever be "enough" to them, but what is even "enough"? Love how you own who you both are and your lived experiences and are being so thoughtful about how you share and pass down culture/traditions to your girls. Also shout-out to Lahore, yes it is a good city!
