I had this. I could never draw back to my anchor point when stood on the line shooting at a target. In fact, it got so bad, i nearly gave up archery totally because of it. I used to stand on the shooting line, aim at the target, draw back to anchor for a few seconds, but not actually release the arrow. After some time this really helped me, but it was tough to get over.

For me personally i will draw and while expanding count to 3 and then release no matter what. A session of this tends to fix it and then i can go back to normal. I dont shoot olympic though.

Sometimes a beginner makes a mistake when selecting the draw weight for the first time. Draw weight that is completely inappropriate, and when they are unable to draw the bow, some of them hate it and hang the bow forever because they can't get the right archer's form.

For a 12 year old female archer (currently in U13, won state in 2022) contemplating switching to U15 or U18 to see how competitive she might be, would you advise this? Or stay at U13 this year. U15 and U18 have longer shooting distance and it's a lot of pressure at this age. She is thinking of trying for USAT in the next 1-2 years if competitive. Thought you might have helpful insight. Thx.

thank you for the info, i got rid of my target panic by using a 3 sentences i repeat in my head while i do my shot sequence, goes like so: the first sentence is for taking the arrow and set it to on the rest, the second is a short one to draw back the bow, the third is the most important one the sentence take around 4 seconds to finish, its my aiming time by the end of that i release

I’ve had most of this equipment since I was a beginner, so I’d say around $1000-1500 for my initial set up, not counting my bow, which was sponsored!

Thanks, I'm going to my first competition (Indoor Nationals) soon! What's the atmosphere like? Does it tend to be tense, or is it more casual/laid-back?
@jenniferkimarchery83113 жыл бұрын
Hi Andrew! I'd say its pretty relaxed during the practice rounds, but once competition starts its usually more tense. They do play music during the competition though, and you'll probably meet a lot of new friends!

I read that there are no amateur archery clubs in korea except for traditional bows and their style of round. If true is that because recurve/compound is seen as a "pro" sport and not for fun?
@jenniferkimarchery83113 жыл бұрын
I've actually been to a couple of "archery" cafes in Korea! They have amateur groups of Olympic archers who like it as a hobby and they usually practice at these cafes together. They have regular meetings and host informal competitions :) There is a lot less people who do archery as a hobby in Korea than America though, and most formal competitions are not open to amateurs.
@georgedavidson9573 жыл бұрын
@@jenniferkimarchery8311 thank you. that was interesting. I run a club (in the uk) and almost the entirety of UK archers are amateur. Even some of our internationalists have day jobs. Being a fan of korean archery (especially ki bo bae as I saw her shoot in the world cup final in 2010) its fascinating to get an insight into whats happening within Korea Archery - theres not much info about it and how it functions in english.

@@jenniferkimarchery8311 with a compound at 3 yards at the moment I'm about 70 sight mark and it changes very rapidly that close, there is a paper weasel face that is very small and you can miss high or low with 2 yards at kill he is all of 1.5" deep, great fun to shoot down on vertically from a stand, check your sight mark on those or aim too far out on first, once saw a shooter land an arrow an inch in front of foot because guessed wrong ! Almost the worst thing I've seen (archery related)
