Great vidio. Were did the extra rope come from to mend it? Do u feed dry cows just silage? What do u do 2 prevent milk fever?
@MCMilkingIt20 күн бұрын
Usually there enough excess rope to just pull out further and reconnect. Normally I get the guys from dairypower to come out and put a new rope on if it gets too short. Ya dry cows just get silage and we dust on precalver minerals now soon. Closer to calving we will also dust on sweet calmag to reduce the risk of milk fever

The platform's final drive might be a hydraulic clutch(es) which would explain the progressive start. Electric possible as well. That's a lot of inertia to overcome.

I've never seen a set up like yours where the cows are out in the open. Everyone else seems to bring them into a shed. Do yours have any shelter, and what are benefits/reasons? thanks
@MCMilkingItАй бұрын
About 70 older cubicles are in a shed along with where we calf the cows. Main benefit is the reduced cost of building. It was a lot cheaper to build the extra slurry storage than a shed. We are spring calving so cows are dry most of the time they are on them. It makes lovely diluted slurry and cows are acclimatise to being outside which helps when getting cows out to grass in spring.
@marcusrichards6588Ай бұрын
@@MCMilkingIt thank you so much for explanation!

I prefer the slurry diluted as it's easier to handle and better for growing grass. We aren't in a high rainfall area so you get lovely slurry.

@MCMilkingItАй бұрын
Ya the roof over the silage pit is a pain for filling but we also calve the cows in there. The objective isn't too keep them dry, just to disinfectant them. They are cleanest in the rain actually.
