This is why, if you're fishing for walleye, but you catch a good-sized Northern pike, string it up and then wait for the walleye to back.

Great footage. Great day of fishing too. My boss once had a lake trout stolen off his line by a Bald Eagle and I've always wished i could of seen that. This video is the next best thing.

I'll never understand why these guys didn't net the pike when it was up against the boat. Probably because they haven't tried my northern pike chowder.

At least you got the hook out before the pike ate it. Too many people are under the misconception that it’ll rust out when in fact it could get hooked up in the fish months.

When I was a child an old neighbor took me fishing at Fort Peck lake near Winnett MT, we put in a setline at night . When I pulled it in, in the morning there was a huge northern, near 30lbs on one of the hooks. When I got it on the bank a 3.5 lb walleye came out of his mouth. The northern was not actually hooked he just wouldn't let go of the walleye, so we ended up with both.

When I was a kid in the 70’s I remember my dad and I fishing. He caught a bass and a good size and was really excited. He was reeling it in and it was boatside. I was getting ready to net it, and a pike came by and bit it into 2. The pike snagged the body and was gone. All my dad had left was the head. He was so mad. All I remember him saying is that fish head cost $250. I found out later that was the cost of our cottage for the week.

@@shpooko in NY state if a conservation officer wanted to, they could charge you & take all your gear and bar you from ever having a license again entirely up to them, & the state will stand behind them. Very expensive to beat them. all they have to do is say you were using a game fish for bait & your done

I've seen that so many times in Manitoba. Reed Lake on into Morton Lake - via land portage - and then another shortage portage into another lake. We've even seen very large walleye with a smaller walleye in their mouths or throats... and ONE huge walleye even had a small northern in its mouth.

Wrong! I've caught many Walleye and Northern from a canoe. You just have to keep the stability issues in mind and be careful. I dictate how safe I am, not the watercraft.

You obviously do not fish from a canoe. If those guys can't bring those fish in the boat without endangering all aboard, then maybe that person should buy a pleasure craft.

I don't know about you guys but I wouldn't let the pike swallow the walleye with the hook in his mouth, you're going to kill both fish. You should have grabbed the pike by the tail to separate them or used the net. I fly fish for atlantic salmon and other species in a canoe. The thing isn't gonna tip bringing that little pike in the boat.I'm not trying to be a dick but if you don't eat it, try to ensure it lives.
