ART and the group really get deep into this classic piece composed by Gordon Jenkins.

The multi-mike analogue recording was mixed live to two track stereo without noise reduction, limiting, compression or equalization and when Ray Staff cut the original lacquers back in 1980 he used no noise reduction, limiting, compression or equalization (other than RIAA of course!).

I knew a guy who had it on vinyl and I taped it onto cassette. I contacted the label but they said they wouldn't release it on CD 😢 These versions of Arts songs with Milcho Leviev were so different to the versions he recorded in the US. I prefer them and thought they needed to be put online. I made this channel to just put these up but can't remember the password 😂

I have this LP. Bought at the time on the recommendation of my university tutor Richard. At the time the post punk thing was on my turntable, The Jam were coming to the end of their run but mod revival was a big influence. Somehow Bulgarian jazz just went with it.

I went to two nights of the fortnight he played at Ronnie's, where this was recorded, not the nights the LPs were recorded at, sadly. Two of the best jazz gigs I've been to, they were the sort of gig where the band starts playing...and suddenly it's two hours later, and you've no idea where the time went. Incredible.

A great track... This track, while not 'getting me into jazz', made me really appreciate it for the first time. It's deep, hot, heady... Pepper at his best. You can get so lost in it, especially after a few drinks! And the precision of the drummer!! Wow - he doesn't miss a beat. Amazing

Bought this amazing music as two albums when they were first released on the London based Mole Jazz label. The label and record shop of the same name in Kings Cross went out of existence some years ago, as far as I know. Still have the albums and the music still thrills. Many thanks for uploading.

GREAT ART PEPPER RECORDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - having seen what I called "The Big 5" in person in the 60's - Miles, Coltrane (twice before he died in '67 - once with Eric Dolphy), Monk, Cannonball and The MJQ, the two all-time greats I regret I never saw in person were Cal Tjader and Art Pepper - and living in South Orange County and spending a lot of time in San Francisco, there is no reason for not having seen them - another great recorded version of this song, done close to when Art died, is on the CD UNRELEASED ART, VOL. III - THE CROYDON CONCERT MAY 14, 1981 - "KEEP ENJOYING THE SOUNDS OF JAZZ" - (as usually Milcho Leviev is incredible on piano)

I posted this track on my fb timeline and as a caption I quoted your comment. Because of that "irrevocably" word. there is a sense of "irrevocability" once your ears get acquainted with something like that. I could say I love thousands of songs, but I choose to marry this one. I would say Art Pepper for me is a father in law.

I love this track Ophelia especially, though the album sizzles throughout! What art starts to build at 1.46 is bliss. I was born 1961 when guys like art pepper were in their element - yeah we have great players today for sure, more all the time as music education is so accessible..... But.. i yearn for the old school who are no longer with us it aint the same!! Imagine leaning on the bar with a seagrams at birdland, bud powell and navarro are on their way to Mintons and you gonna follow when jackie mclean finishes up....! Ah sorry for my crap but y'know?!

dynamite. I heard this song while watching Ken Burns' Jazz, and I knew I had heard another version and had loved it. I could not remember where I had heard it, or the title, so I waited for the credits. When I saw the title, I knew it was from a cassette tape that I recorded of this very version back in about 1987 or so. I am so grateful to for posting this. Now I have a way to enjoy this CD once again.

Too good to be true. One of my greatest regrets is not attending this gig, which I could have, as I was livi ng in London at the time. Also missed Bill Evans!! On the other hand, I saw Dizzy @ Ronnie's in around 1984. I think he was the greatest instrumentalist I ever saw, with the possible exception of David Oistrakh.
