Have been wanting to make our garage door quieter for years as our neighbors have commented that ours is so loud. followed your tutorial to the "T" (ordering the recommended parts, etc.), and properly lubricating all components (per another YTube video).Unfortunately the new rollers (with the shrink-wraped tubing) ended-up to large to fit into several of our hinge holes on our brackets (so I had to cut the tubing away on several of them). The noise was actually greater after I completed the work! Alot of waisted time and money. I now believe (as my wife suspected!) the greatest contributor to the noise is the garage door opener motor and the chain! 😫😫

I slowly add my stabliizer to warm water in a bucket and stir it well. Seems to speed up the dissolving part.

Nice idea on the pool noodles. The replacement nylon rollers I purchased also had the appropriate sized nylon sleeves for the stems, which should hold up better than heat shrink.

You ahould point out that your door has a torsion spring. The process is different for doors with axial springs. This affects the process.

Can you use CLR instead of vinegar?

The patch looks great, but the “leak” in that straight pvc you showed isn’t a natural occurring leak. That hole is from their drill. I have photos of thousands of repairs. None of the cracks look like that. I’ve accidentally drilled into plumbing before too and that’s exactly what it looks like.

2 years ive been slaving away over a bucket stirring and disolving stabilizer by hand because the instructions my local pool shop gave me is just backwash filter then apply stabilizer and the guys there told me to pre mix it...ugh youve saved me so much time

I have a fairly new low flow toilet. I heard that they typically don’t put enough water down with the flush to flow the waste 100 feet so I hold the handle down until I see the flow stop for heavy duty flushes. I have one original toilet in my 52 year old house that definitely needs the major cleaning. Thanks for the info on how to do it.

I have a lake home in Northern Wisconsin with a crushed rock driveway. Every weekend I walk my driveway and parking area. It’s a very large area. The driveway is 250 feet long. I have been using Household White Vinegar about 2 quarts 1 box of table salt and a good healthy squeeze of the cheapest fish soap I can buy. I put this in a 2 gallon sprayer and top off with water. I can see results in just a few hours. But when I return the following week I have new sprouting weeds in other areas. So from Late April to October I have to stay on top of it. I just wish I could find something better. I need to be safe because I have a well and drink and bath in this water 25 feet under my driveway. It’s becoming a problem of my time doing this. On larger weeds I flood the soil to have it also attack the roots. And contaminate the soil. It works for a while.

What made the biggest difference? The foam noodles or the new rollers with heat shrink? We’ll done btw.

It would only work in hard water areas.

I just adjust the fill valve level.. allowing more water into the tank.

a bit labor intensive. doubt the neighbors are going to quiet their doors too. molded wheels are nice. plastic tubing that fit the O.D. of the roller shaft and the I.D. of the hinge would save a lot of the labor.

Another option I found is to just add copper ions to the water. Copper sulfate is pretty cheap and with a quick bit of math you can figure out what 1 ppm of copper is so you can add it (or look it up). It is also important to keep your chlorine up. Tip - if your CYA gets too be too high, add bleach instead of chlorine pucks. The bleach will slowly (over about a season) bring CYA back in line, but pucks raise it over time. Finally, if you can do it, go salt pool. Saves a fortune in chlorine and keeps the pool from going green when it is running well.
