Looking to do a Mini Rack in my house.. however I disagree with the many many little computers.. A mini itx am5 server build could host all those mini PC + more as VM's or Dockers, and have a true storage array ZFS in Unraid.

Thank you for the clear video footage. I ordered a used Apple TV and it arrived set to a different language. I searched all over for ways to reset but they all required you to already have the device set to your own language. Same with changing the language. I downloaded the Google translate app which can translate visual feed and photos. I guessed it was in Japanese and set the app to translate from that. I pointed it at the screen and it translated live as I scrolled and clicked. Well… It didn’t translate everything, but between your video footage and the live translations, I figured out where the correct buttons were and got it reset. Quick tip to anybody that has this same experience: choose “reset” instead of “reset and update”. The later requires you to also go through the extra hassle of figuring out how to get the device connected to your wifi which I’m not sure is safe if the device isn’t ghosted/wiped like mine wasn’t. I could tell because it had the names of like 15 other accounts it was still paired to.

It might be that your SSD format is incompatible with your new MacOS. if it is formatted to MacOS extended then your SSD should support new updates as well as be backwards compatible with older MacOS. Unfortunately there are no ways to get it back onto your updated system unless you have an older MacOS that will read your drive.

Hey, great video! I'm planning to set up my own rack and have a question about grounding. I'm in a bit of a tricky situation: should I ground the rack or not? I have a 3-pin outlet, but I’m curious how you approached this. Did you consider grounding your rack, or did you decide it's not necessary in a home environment?

Late 2014 MacMini 3.0Ghz i7 (OS Monterey) Single-Core 709, Multi-Core 1510 🥇 Mid 2012 MBP 2.9Ghz i7 (running Monterey with OCLP) Single-Core 503, Multi-Core 1455 🥈 Late 2008 MBP 2.4Ghz Core2Duo (running Catalina with DosDudes patcher!) Single-Core 341, Multi-Core 622🥉😅 Weirdly the 2012 MBP feels the fastest out of the three... I wonder if it has a better graphics chip than the MacMini or could just be because it's a fresh OS install? My faithful OG MBP holds up remarkably well running Catalina (better than El Capitan!), fine for every day stuff like email and KZbin but falls over with processor-heavy tasks.

Do you have a NAS? You thinking of buying one??
@musicman0024

Yes I have the UGreen 8 Bay (DXP8800 Pro). Dual 10GbE network ports (which can be link aggregated as well (20G bandwidth for download speeds up to 2500MB/s). 12th Gen 10-Core Intel i5 CPU. Eight 24TB capacity bays (of any brand, not restricted like Synology). Two PCIe 4 x4 M.2 NVMe slots expandable to 16TB (8TB each). DDR5 RAM expandable up to 96GB / 4800MHz. Dual THUNDERBOLT 4 ports and a PCIe x4 expansion slot. Software wise UGREEN allows you to install your software of choice (TruNAS, Unraid, HexOS, etc.) if you don't like their OS, without voiding the warranty. I've been very happy with so far. I also own their 4 bay (DXP4800 Plus) which has many of the same features. For me, that's what a 2025 nas should look like.

Given the models that you chose to highlight here, especially for 2025, I recommend your viewers check out UGreen NAS when it becomes available in your/their respective regions. Way more modern (2024 models vs. the Synology 1821+ you show here, is a 2021 model.), way more standard hardware (Dual 10Gbe NICs, not 4 1Gbe or 2 2.5Gbe), faster Intel CPUs, etc,, and and just as importantly, for the same price and or cheaper. The UGreen software platform is no where on the level of Synology, but UGreen is one of the few NAS companies that allows you to change the operating system to the software of your choice without violating the warranty. For a "Best NAS for the home in 2025" video, there are several other models and companies that are a lot newer, and give more bang for the buck than a four-year-old overpriced Synology1621+. I I like the concept of your video, just not the products that you selected. I think consumers in 2025 can find better specs and prices than these models.

Newer doesn't mean better. Its hard to beat Synology.
@musicman0024
@musicman0024 17 күн бұрын
@@CAMTechChris Hi there. I completely agree. There a few new models that I would say are not better than the ones before it, but that being said, there are several that are. In the case of the 8 bay Synology 1821+ that Emilo has in this video, it's a $1000 US Dollars, has a four year old AMD Ryzen Embedded V1500B CPU that ranks 1988th in multithreading (out of 4921 CPUs), 2799th in single threading (out of 4921 CPUs), and 255th out of 1042 Mobile/Embedded CPUs. Has very costly upgrades, has dated, slower PCIe lanes (Gen 3 x1 when others are coming with Gen 4x4 standard), has dated USB ports (3.2 Gen 1 when others are coming with 3.2 Gen 2 standard), has 4 1Gbe NICs (when others are coming with 2.5Gbe and or 10Gbe standard). Also with Synology you have restricted flexibility. All upgrades must be Synology or they want honor the warranty. So if you want to upgrade to be competitive to the new 8 Bays on the market, here's what you're paying: Dual 10Gbe port PCIe Card $270 (E10G30-T2), or even a single 10Gbe $140 (E10G18-T1), 16Gb of Ram (D4ES01-16GB) - $350 ea., so $700 if you max ram to 32Gb (when others are allowing max ram of 64 and 96GB, and again its DDR4, not DDR5 from any brand you chose). Add another $560 if you want NVMe M.2 SSD as well (SNV3410 - 800GB, $280ea x 2)Those upgrades alone close cost more than the nas itself. So my point was, if I was doing a “Best NAS of 2025” video, I would not recommend an 8 Bay unit that has a 4 year old cpu that ranks in the bottom 50% or 25% of the cpus on the market today, has dated components, and a restrictive & expensive upgrade path, at an all in price of $2,530 USD ($1000+$700+$270+$560). That does not sound like best 8 bay nas deal to me in 2025.

@@darwishmdI only have experience with Synology NAS units. I’ve been using my three Synology NAS units for 5 years and have had zero issues. The operating system is rock solid. Synology been in the business for many years and have a solid reputation. For these reasons I won’t even consider switching. Ugreen, on the other hand has had some questionable tech releases in the past few years, in my experience.
