Still a lil cutie! 😍 My sister has horses; I wonder if she knows about this. I'm going to pass the info on. Last year, I heard my Bostie mix barking his dingdong head off. I went out to my yard to see what the problem was, and, he had a cute possum cornered up against the house. 😭 Possie was unharmed, but naturally freaked out. I scolded my doggo, made him come inside the house, and we had a talk... again... 🙄 about how we treat the wildlife. (We essentially live surrounded by forest. We kinda live *in* the forest! 😅) This dog loves to take off into the woods, but he still hasn't learned that he will never outrun the deer, and he can't fly like the turkeys. 😁 He sometimes messes with this groundhog my husband has, for some reason, named "Moscow Mitch" (😅), but, sometimes, they meet up and it's like old home week! They kinda nod at each other, and move on. I need to look out for his older but much smaller Yorkie sister. She's under 5 lbs., and we have hawks and owls. She doesn't look much different from food from above. We and our neighbors disallow any hunting on our adjacent wooded properties; I give uneaten fruit and vegetables to the deer, and I try to remember to put big bowls of water at the woodline, when it's hot. IDK if I'm doing wrong, but, I try to caretake the animals in my woods. Oh... the raccoons like to eat the food I leave out for the feral cats! 😅🦡🐾 Brazen little smart guys, so adorable, but I know they could hurt my dogs. However, my Yorkie, believing herself to be 10 feet tall and bulletproof, has treed two of them. 😆 (she's blind now, so, no more of her outdoor antics. I love animals, btw. And I don't eat meat!)

Please don't hold opossums by their tails. Their tails are used for balance when climbing, and they're directly connected to their spine, holding a opossum by the tail is not safe for them, and it hurts them

Hey there! @Rusty_pawz Thanks so much for leaving a comment! 🦝😊 I’ve got to say, I’m a huge fan of **North American opossums**, also known as **Virginia opossums**. These guys are incredibly unique and full of surprises! One of the most interesting things about them is their **ability to "play possum"**-when threatened, they literally faint and appear dead, which is a defense mechanism to fool predators. It’s crazy how their body just shuts down to save them! Another cool fact is that **opossums are immune to rabies** due to their lower body temperature. They also have **prehensile tails** that help them balance and grab onto things, making them excellent climbers! Plus, they’re incredibly beneficial in controlling **tick populations**, which is awesome for the environment. I really appreciate you taking the time to comment, and if you want to learn more about these fascinating creatures, be sure to check out our **possum-focused shorts** on our KZbin channel! 🦠🤠 Howdy y’all! Bare Hands Beran here, talking armadillos and a bit of medical trivia-yep, including how my Southern twang turns 'stigma' into 'stigmatism'! Now, before you worry about catching anything just by watching, let me put on my serious hat for a sec: 95% of us adults are naturally immune to the bacteria that causes Hansen's disease, also known as leprosy. But don't let those old wives' tales scare you away from appreciating these unique critters. Armadillos are an important part of our ecosystem, acting as nature's gardeners. They dig for their food, which aerates the soil, helping to maintain a healthy earth! 🌍 Curious about more fun facts or myths surrounding our armored friends? Roll on over to our playlist for all things armadillo: [kzbin.info/aero/PLxzuCqdKlTstaUqFgP3suuGW8ZrJmg_vP&si=9fxtrJaOEs8wcSbx] And remember, just because my accent might blur 'stigma' with 'stigmatism,' the only thing catching here is your interest! 😄 #Armadillos #LeprosyFacts #WildlifeEducation #WildlifeCommandCenter
