Angel Heart has not asked for anything if we dig the story, we realize that he is damned to hell, while the crimes are not due to his will. I really wonder what the Bible would say about this case, and more specifically about the times. This film really scares religious people, especially orthodox Catholic Christians or others. and the Muslim religion, too.

I adore De Niro's smile at 1:50 and 1:59 this exactly how I would portray the devil smiling like he knows something you don't want to accept and that there is nothing you can do to save yourself

Realistically, this degree of anguish would absolutely count as repentance, and would thus save Angel from hell - because that's the thing. You can't actually sell your soul to the devil. The devil just needs to convince you that you're already damned so that you don't even think of repenting. But if you ever repent, the devil's fucked.
@KalvinEllis15 күн бұрын
But this was no repentance since his anguish is for himself not his victims. And he was an occultist who did sell his soul to the devil for fame and fortune, then killed an innocent man and took over his life to try to back out of the deal. His soul was doomed long before the events of the movie. He was going to hell regardless if he killed those people or not.

@@KalvinEllis What part of "your soul is not yours to sell" did you not understand? The devil "making deals" is nothing more than an attempt to bullshit mortals into thinking themselves damned so they don't try to repent.

@@Scaevola9449 What part of "he was an occultist" did you not understand? The devil didn't have to "convince" him about anything, Johnny was the one who summoned him, asked him to make him rich and famous and offered his soul in return. The devil didn't bullshit him into doing anything, Johnny made the deal, then tried to back out of it by murdering an innocent person. That's what doomed him. No "repentance" was going to save him, nor did he have any.

A very good illustration of the sickness of bible culture. We live like hypnotised zombies, far below a level, that can be called human in a prison of body and soul. Then some evil god comes to suck us dry from the remaining energy by manipulation and lies about debt and guilt. Typically Yehova. Gnostics knew he was the devil.

Nobody can beat al Pacino role as the devil in the devils advocate. That being said I have actually not seen this movie and it looks really good, but I can't see it being better than Al's. Especially that elevator scene when he flicks his tongue and it looks like a serpent tongue. Gave me chills lol
@ichabodcrane248729 күн бұрын
This movie isn't about DeNiro's performance as Lucifer. His role is a marginal figure and could have been replaced at any time, for example by Anthony Hopkins or, for me, by Al Pacino. Angel Heart stands or falls with Mickey Rourke as the lead actor. His extraordinary acting could not have been replaced. This means that without him we wouldn't need to discuss Angel Heart at all.

You can tell that their scenes were shot separately. They are never in the same shot, which I think greatly reduces Roarke’s performance here.
