Bomberman Jetters is also on GameCube. Great multiplayer in that one too.
@ElbowDropMOАй бұрын
My first Bomberman game was 64, and I got so used to it and Hero’s 3D setup that it completely screwed with me when I eventually obtained 64 2nd Attack and it played “traditional” style with the explosions and how things played (though a lot of that was just 2nd Attack being 2nd Attack….lots of slowdown and odd design choices). I eventually learned to appreciate it (I even obtained a loose copy of Saturn Bomberman for an amazing price as time went on). I dunno why I never gave the GameCube versions a spin; maybe I was going through a “too cool” “that’s for babies” phase. I’d heard there was a lot of criticism even at the time 64 came out that the multiplayer didn’t “work” with the 3D explosions (I strongly disagree, but I am biased). So I get them keeping the classic style for multiplayer (especially after 2nd Attack went back to the classic style outright, and Bomberman Online on Dreamcast).

Hearing the history of Treyarch is fascinating, as I never knew of “Die by the Sword”. I knew of their porting efforts on Dreamcast, and of Draconus, but really thought their first efforts were there. Visually the game is VERY impressive, more so in the outdoor environments, and Spider-Man’s character model. It’s a good game, but also a little rough around the edges at times. Another great video man!

This is a game I always found as a solid platformer. It definitely is just Crash Bandicoot with Donald Duck, but that’s not a bad thing at all! Interesting hearing the history behind the development for this as always! Finally trying to catch up on your videos man!

Insanely fun video. These E3 announcement recap videos kinda feel like a highlight trailer for your future work. It also puts me back there and it reminds me why 2002 felt so exciting for video games. I love your comparison of the "Emperor showing up naked" about Nintendo being there without much to offer with online. The info and the conjecture you produce is great stuff. Great summary of where we were at that year! I was mainly playing PC games or enjoying my Dreamcast backlog (games were going cheap) so it would be another year before I fell all in on the gamecube - but I was watching and suddenly the console went from a novelty some of my friends had to something very exciting

I've been binging your stuff all week after PandaMonium recommended your videos on his Patreon (and my friend mentioned wishing someone did what he does for Saturn games, but for GameCube games). Your work is quite excellent. I feel extra-attached as this was around the time I was checking the videogame websites every day and kept up with the news. Especially with the older E3s, it's fun to see games in earlier states and see what they became, or what could've been. I remember that price drop too. $200 was when little kid me was "OK" with saving up for a PS2, so when that news dropped, it was ON. Lo and behold, I got a GameCube that same year too. I'm excited to see more of your work! Keep it up! P.S. I added that song to my Spotify playlist. Way too catchy!

I always heard about this one, but I wasn't fully interested in it because I was waiting for like...more traditional JRPGs to hit the GameCube. This is like the first time we got a taste of any RPG really it seems like. While the system didn't get a lot of RPGs, it did get a few really classics of its own! I cannot wait for you to get to things like Skies of Arcadia, Baten Kaitos and of course my favorite GameCube game, Tales of Symphonia! (I feel the synergy of the original system from the way you're doing this project, it's like back in the 2000s when I was desperately waiting for those said RPGs to hit the cube, while looking at things like this, to see if I really wanted to give the first taste or not a go)

i rented Lost Kingdom when i saw the advertisement in nintendo power because the artwork looked great and i was not disappointed because around that time i was obsessed with Yu-gi-oh so having another game involving cards was awesome for me. i still really enjoy this game but i really need to play the 2nd one as its been on my list for years. but yeah i can understand that it wont be for everyone since it can be a bit tough to grasp for how different it plays for an action RPG i do think it is interesting that the gamecube did not get a ton of RPGs but a lot of them involve cards in some way. also that dreamcast game framegride is a really fun game.

It couldn't have taken that much more effort to enable 480p the same way many other games did back then, some publishers like capcom just didn't seem to push it. You can tell by just how easy it is to force these games to progressive using swiss.
@ChronCube3 ай бұрын
Yea I’m not sure what exactly the self imposed development requirements are for 480p. Swiss can force almost all of them and Capcom went on to have progressive scan for RE0 and RE4. I’ve also seen interviews with the Monkey Ball developers saying they didn’t have time to do 480p for the first game but made sure to include it in the second game. Maybe it’s a QA thing that that they needed to make sure it wouldn’t break anything? I’d really like to get an answer to this sometime. Fingers crossed 🤞
