Do you have any flower recommendations for hummingbirds?
@wheeez2914Ай бұрын
lonicera sempervirens ( honeysuckle vine ) native to us. I have planted like every 10ft around the yard and the deck ruby loves it! 1st plants to go to every morning! Super drought tolerant one behind the shed I forgot about it... then they were doing better then anybody else that are under irrigation system... They grew crazy from 1 year period + 1st one to green last one to going dormant here in VA Quantico area. Heavey Aphids warning have a aphids fighter plants, bugs and birds nearby but they'll recover and carolina chickadee feeds aphids to their newly hatched babies, gold finch hunt for aphids as well once they're done for the season the flowers turns into beautiful red orange ish berry then local birds will eat them A very beneficial native flowering vine host 31 species
@birding_by_earАй бұрын
@@wheeez2914 Thanks. Have you noticed if it spreads or is invasive?
@wheeez2914Ай бұрын
@birding_by_ear our lonicera sempervirens is two different native to US soil 1. Major wheeler 2. Alabama crimson To my understanding of invasive for botanical term is non-native tree, bushes, plants came from outside of US soil Both honeysuckle are very well behave i keep them trained their tendril and will not choke nearby trees or bushes like a one with white / yellow fragrance lonicera japonica my neighbor has it growing and it's choking whoever in its way very tough that one its choking my tree every spring lol If you leave ANY honeysuckle plants on the ground untrained they'll spread through the ground grow roots from the vine that has contact with soil just so you know My experience with those 2 native lonicera they're much more humble than white/yellow version :) Red, red, red!!

I had a pair of blue jay show up in my yard which was very unusual. Southwest Idaho is out of their range. They must’ve gotten blown off course. I don’t know how that happens but it was a fun winter for me. They stuck around all winter and were a pleasure. They were very demanding. If I didn’t have the peanuts out at a little after sunrise, they were squawking until I brought them out. Like this video said, they would take every peanut and stash it somewhere and come right back for more. I was hoping they would come back every year but I never saw them again after they left in the spring.

I love ravens and crows. I believe the large bird I saw in a tree this morning was a raven based on how large it was. Both ravens and crows live in my city year-round but they seem to dissappear for a few months and then reappear in August. The bird I saw was making a grunting sound that made me think of a young pig. Several Bluejays who have a reputation for ganging up on predators, were harassing the raven. I feel lucky to have seen such a beautiful bird. Thank you for a great video comparing raven and crow calls; so clear and succinct.

Yes, for the USA and Canada most hummingbirds do prefer bubblers. In other countries some of the hummingbird species will only come to "misters".🥂

I like it! For those like me that have no fixed address as a choice, you can sub out rocks for styrofoam-painted earthy colors. In this way the design shown here can become portable. Sub out power cord for a power bank and you can take it anywhere you go!🥂 Excellent design, thanks for sharing!

Love what you've done with this water feature. I fixed one similar to that because the pump kept getting clogged with sludge. If you put some rock in the bottom of the bucket and put the pump on them it will keep most of the sediment out as it goes into the rocks instead of the fountain.

Thank you. That’s a great idea.

Mine will be kind of a cross between this and the stacked rock water feature you did earlier. I have sort of a huge planter so I'm using a 5 gallon bucket and a large planter saucer that sits on top for the birdbath and will plant creeping Jenny and other plants around the edges. What size was the tube you used in this video and the rock water feature?
