I mean, Goku is a distant Father and he sent his kid out to fight an enemy he could have beat himself to prove a point and basically force the mantle of Earth's Protector on his son. And while his initial plan to defeat Cell did work out, ultimately Gohan shrugged off his responsibilities in that role, actually becoming weaker in the process. Also Vegeta chastising Goku in Super about abandoning Bulma during her pregnancy. Goku doesn't appear to mind ditching his family. That's actually been kind of a reoccurring theme in the series. So for me personally he is an idiot and not a good father.
