I love that you made this video, and congrats. Will you be in 2025? I will be there. Question on climbing up those big rocks: Did you do any specific training for that?
@ChristianRunsNY
@ChristianRunsNY 12 күн бұрын
I’d love to run it again in 2025, yea! I’m local so to train I just ran the course in part or in full in the time before the race. If you can I’d try to get some time on a trail with a steep grade, like close to 1000ft over a mile. That will get you familiar enough with a slower climb and recovery mid race.

Hope they worked well for you. I still really like those shoes but the outsole did wear away after about 150 miles for me because it’s so much rock here. Wears them out like wearing a trail shoe on the road.

I use XL which is fairly true to size for me. Sometimes I can use a large from some clothing brands. I’m 6ft, wide shoulders and 46 suit jacket chest. Most of my weight is in my thighs I think aside from the wide shoulders, size wise. 230lbs total.

How have you dealt with knee pain while running?
@ChristianRunsNY
@ChristianRunsNY Ай бұрын
I do have some knee pains but I’m a long time snowboarder who’s had ACL repair and have at least one torn meniscus currently. It doesn’t tend to bother me much day to day now, but whether related or not I’ve had to fix some ITBS in the past and patellar pain that’s mostly gone now.

Just ordered a white Epix 2 and was looking at these exact straps on Amazon. Very helpful to see on video, thanks Christian. In case it's helpful for anyone looking on Amazon in Europe, I believe the brand YOOSIDE is the same thing as the Abanen in the US.

I thought the point of garmin was navigation. Nobody should compare garmin to apple. They're on completely different fields. I have a Fenix 5x and a tactix delta. I'm not into fitness. I use the watches to mark way points and track my rides or adventures. The "fitness tracking" is just an added feature that I take with a grain of salt. I'm on the fence between the Fenix 7 and the epix. Battery life is important because I don't like to take it off and charge it frequently, not because I'm taking 4 day hikes. Not sure about the screen in bright light. I work outside all day every day and I don't know if the epix will be good. I'm drawn to the fancy display but it's important to me to be able to glance at the watch and see the time or a notification without dropping what's in my hands to do so, otherwise why have a watch.. I can drop everything and reach for my phone. Not everything is cut and dry. To be honest, this wasn't a very good review and had almost no useful information. Really showed nothing unique to the watch and only things that apply to garmin in general, while comparing garmin to apple. If you reply to this comment, I won't see it. Not trying to offend anyone, just sharing my opinion since I gave you my time to watch this video. You're welcome.
@ChristianRunsNY
@ChristianRunsNY 4 ай бұрын
Garmin has navigation but it definitely is not most people’s go to use case. Also I’d argue you’re into fitness in the sense of what Garmin is for getting out on adventures. To me, yea Apple is a smart watch and Garmin makes durable outdoor gear, in the form of tech, still with more of a focus on getting outdoors and making fitness stats look meaningful.

Garmin has the worst and most user unfriendly software I have ever seen in any of the smartwatches I used in the market. It is confusing and often does not work at all. I have a garmin epix (gen 2), carbon gray dlc titanium with black band, premium active and I will send it back for a refund. It will not find my Telstra WiFi 5G broadband connection my other WiFi items including other brands find with ease. Garmin, this is a useless piece of product that is not only overpriced but also user unfriendly. Do not purchase such an outdated unsmart-watch.

Toss out a brand you recommend? Curious what you like. I’ve had no issues with 3 Garmin’s now. It’s been my personal favorite by a lot, but nobody needs to agree with me.

For some reason, the Epix Gen 2 only connects to 2.4Ghz wifi networks. Try to enable the 2.4 network on your router.

I'm wondering if I got the creme color if the shoe would get dirty due to mud? Theres always mud on the trail and anyway, I dont want an all black shoe. SO does the water proof design help with dirt? And or does the water proof design clean easy?

Running it this year and just saw your 2022 half video and u mentioned you got dropped off near prospect park, will be driving in from CT and was wonder how the parking is? Anywhere you would recommend parking near the start…
@ChristianRunsNY
@ChristianRunsNY 7 ай бұрын
Parking is going to be a definite no-go. It's hard enough to park in NYC without a race, but with closures and the additional crowds, I would not rely on parking near the start, unless you have a paid lot in mind.

I've always been able to fit into a normal width shoe, so I don't want to recommend something that may work for a truly wide foot. I'd recommend checking out this page from BITR: believeintherun.com/shoe-reviews/best-wide-foot-running-shoes/

If I was able to get onto the trails daily I’d be fine using it all the time for sure. Just enough cushion but super high or low stack for more specialized days.
