Wow way over my 1yr of tinkering with tinker cad. I thought, great I'll come watch this and maybe be able to make the back ramp for my Whirlwind. Nope not a chance. Your a magician.

I will now watch all of your videos on how to build a pinball machine bc I do NOT want to spend half a dozen grand on a pinball machine and also, I can design it and decorate it to my own liking! Thank you creating such a detailed guide!

I'm glad you're catching the bug, but beware - it's not a cheaper project 😅 I've spent over $6k on my machine - and that's not counting everything spent on new tools and extra parts I bought in bulk for the next machine etc....😬😂

@@thepinballroom I'm not really trying to make an extremely extravagant pinball machine and I have a connection with someone with a 3d printer (maybe for decorations). Do you have a website to suggest that sells good pinball parts? I am completely fine with assembly required if the price is a bit high😅

anyone got a childhood dream of building their own pinball games, but where to start? it's not a cheap hobby or anything... 60-70 dollar or euro for just one flipper assembly. so that means about 150 dollar/euro to get a left and right one. not to mention, to get them running you need also got the buttons, power supply etc. could you give some tips/pointers how to get started cheaply?
@CrazyBite200715 күн бұрын
the difficult left ramp if you don't make the shot gives spin to the pinball so it has a good chance to drain straight down the middle.... I also saw the stairway advance almost lose a ball, maybe make the stairs so they tilt forward or perhaps have a dimple? this way the ball has no chance to fall off.

I made rings that I soldered onto multiple wires (so it was a tube shape so any corner could work..) where you 3d printed brackets. I made the rings using a vacuumcleanertube. wind up long enough stainless steel so you have enough rings, then use the clippers and a soldering iron to make the rings.
@CrazyBite200717 күн бұрын
those bends you made using the stuff on the wall, you should use stainless steel rod that has a smaller diameter (so bending is actually easier.)
@CrazyBite200717 күн бұрын
again a late comment, but put a little label per each wire/connection with written onto it what it is for?
@CrazyBite200717 күн бұрын
late to the party comment, maybe things changed significantly, but the left banana shape you made, it should be a bit longer? this way the ball actually slows down quite a bit if it landed at the end of the shape. the right horseshoe looks fine!

I've been building pinball games and digital pinball tables for a decade, but I am finally going to attempt to create a physical version of my favorite table that I made with a warhammer 40k theme. Thanks for all the helpful videos and I can't wait to start on my own pinball journey this year.

Heck I wish I knew how to build a pinball machine. Minimum 3 feet long but i don't know how to build those 🤦♂ I had ideas for said machines that were never made, based on popular movies or sequels that were never filmed.. If I knew how to build one, I'd for sure used you for the artwork lol 😁😉🤘🤘🤘🤘

I don't like this Molex plugs. They corrode when getting old. They burn on high ampere loads. Especially solenoids guzzle high amperes. The thin wires are ok for LED or signal and switches but solenoids definitely need a different gauge.
@thepinballroom2 ай бұрын
Yeah for the solenoids I believe I used 18GA vs the thinner wires for the LEDs. And I later switched to real connectors after I was done prototyping and moving things around a lot. 👍

The paints sounds a bit nasty! On projects I've done in the past I've been using car body spray cans that are used in a well-ventilated room or outdoors, but are not deadly.
@Pugwash.2 ай бұрын
In hindsight, would it have been easier to do the wiring after you had finished finalising the playfield? I know you wouldn't be able to playtest it much but it looked like you didn't do this much between sheets anyway?
@thepinballroom2 ай бұрын
Yes, definitely - I basically decided that I wouldn't worry about it being perfect until I have my final playfield created - then I'll get super precise with laying out the wiring for a nice clean final harness
@Pugwash.2 ай бұрын
I've worked in a factory that used assembly boards for harnesses for cars. They're a good idea if you're making loads of the same design. For cars they usually had combinations of striped wire and tagged or terminated them all uniquely. Fortunately I was good at soldering and was doing that way more interesting job of attaching connectors.

The trial and error is interesting. I have a DC motor lifting a VERY heavy load in my camper, and it's running through a worm gear. It has that massive additional torque along with the bonus of not running freely when the power is removed.

I am working on building a machine with parts from a very old machine. The flipper coils from it are 24v, so do you have any suggestions on how to connect these to the 48v system? Thank you!
@thepinballroom3 ай бұрын
Good question, I'm not as familiar with the older systems so I can't tell you the best way to get those same coils working with a 48v power supply. If it were me, I'd replace the coils aside that's likely the simplest approach 🤷

Being a part of a discord homebrew group, i see so many methods for each step with great results. Ive really enjoyed your videos, and your learning process. Look forward to your next build!
Awesome info and amazing progress! So glad you got access to a drum sander, that's a pro move right there, and exactly how the commercial shops and CPR does it. My only real critique is that the epoxy resin you used isn't great for this application. That art resin is designed to flow thin, and likes to run/drip everywhere you don't want it - it's intended for deep/thick resin pours for art projects. The GG clear epoxy glue would have been much easier, as it is thicker/tackier, so you would have less mess and better gap filling. But personally I don't like the 5 min epoxy for a project this big. Instead, you can find quality, non-yellowing 30 minute clear epoxy resin glue, so you get the best of both worlds: longer working time, less runny, and better gap filling. Also, cleanup is mostly a waste of time, since when you sand the top flush any glue sitting on top gets sanded off, and using a cloth to wipe it off really only pushes it deeper into the pores, making it resistant to light sanding (it's the same with wood glue - let it squeeze out/sit on top, don't wipe it into the pores as it will block stain). Also, the clear epoxy should blend near perfectly with the top coat, so one more reason not to worry about cleanup.
@thepinballroom4 ай бұрын
Where do you get your epoxy? I'd be interested to try one that isn't quite as runny as what I'm using, but I prefer it over the Gorilla one so far.
