Are portable frames like the a-frame from x-pole considered safe? I only need it for aerial yoga, nothing that’s high impact, but even that seems tricky to do safely at home from what I’m reading

How do I get information of a rigging specialist in the north east of England?

Thank you for this! Very well demonstrated! If I may ask: - How much fabric to factor in for the figure 8 knot on the rescue 8 ring approx? - And for the prussik loop technique - what loop length/diametre approx. would be fitting for the thick fabric?

"Clove Hitch" not cloth hitch just for anyone viewing this as a tutorial.

A VERY important point regarding swivels is that they are one of the very few rigging components that can NOT be backed up. That is why using a correctly rated swivel and regular inspections are vital.
@raypierce58189 ай бұрын
The knots used are certainly workable but the weakest link is the D:d ratio off the thinner ring to the fabric. In pull testing it will always fail where the first wrap touches the termination device. For rehearsals or training the knots don’t matter too much but for theatrical use, the larger knots are a little bulky for me as I prefer a sleeker look on stage. For shows, I usually use a minimum 1/2” pear ring with the fabric cloved to the ring, with the tail lashed to the live side with colored electrical tape (to match the fabric) down about 15cm, then I leave a small loop of fabric sticking out then tape it back up to the knot and cut off the excess. The exposed loop is used as a visual indicator to make sure the clove hasn’t slipped. Thanks again!!

Overall, a lot of good information. For me… the WLL isn’t as important as the MBS if you don’t know the Design Factor used to calculate it. We do use DF (what was used to say was the Safety Factor or FoS) over here but Safety Factor is used by some as well. The Eye Nut you have on the all thread rod for a ground anchor is typically rated for a Pull Out Load for a vertical lift. For an angled or side load the nut should be sufficiently de-rated appropriately, however the pin strength increases as you go from a pull put to a shear load. As far as DF’s go, in the states we use either 10:1 based on the static load of the performer and gear, 6:1 for the charismatic load during the act or 3:1 of of the expected or unexpected potential peak loading… whichever one of the three is greatest. Showing most engineers a video typically won’t give them the hard numbers they need to calculate the needed capacity. The other important thing to elaborate on is the span and location of the point. A CPL is far different than a UDL or 3rd Point Load. The position on the span closer to the supporting structure will change the capacity. Thanks again for getting good knowledge out to everyone!

There are rigging courses you can take which would get you started, but working with experienced individuals or organisations to gain the appropriate experience is the best way

What are your thoughts on mixing aluminium and steel rigging equipment? This seems to be a forever question and the answer depends on who you ask. Professionals alike. Thanks!
@markggibson2 жыл бұрын
Hello, we see no issue with mixing metals in rigging circus equipment.
@raypierce58188 ай бұрын
@@markggibsonThe more important thing to be aware of in dissimilar metal contact is that the wear will always affect the softer of the two materials. In this case that would be the aluminum. In inspections, always look for the wear on the aluminum piece and retire it q when it reaches 10% of the original thickness.

This is the first time i have seen a method similar to what i do: i use a 17yd silk looped in a spiral to make a hybrid scarf and hammock set up in my 14’ space. So many possibilities open up - can use either scarves or hammock, or combine them or knot the scarves for a double hammock set up. I exclude the ones i dont want to use at any given time by tying them up at the top with a quick release ‘flower’, and can use an extra tail as a ‘hand rail’ to slowly ‘walk’ myself down new drops or through positions.

I've heard that steel and aluminum shouldn't be used together (touching), so an aluminum carabiner on a steel hoop would cause problems. Is that correct?

Hello @Autumn Skye, rigging from trees isn't something we would recommend as it takes very specialist knowledge. We have created a video on our channel called 'Setting up rigging point at home' which goes into this topic
@speedracer773 жыл бұрын
Thank-you for the well-explained video. Because the bottom of the swivel is round, could you just attach the 2 carabiners from the slings directly to the swivel, thus not requiring the pull/plate and additional carabiner?
@circusriggingsafety3 жыл бұрын
In most cases swivels are designed to be used in line and cannot be tri-loaded, so only one carabiner on each end of the swivel, you could use a bow shackle instead of a carabiner though

This is really great video. I have a question that stemmed from footage from a ski lift “rescue” where they attempted to catch a child in a webbed tarp. It drew my curiosity if you could discuss how to catch a performing artist with your catch tarps (material, technique of hold, and number of support persons.)
