In my opinion if you’re building a racing Honda not locking vtec is somewhat dumb for low end power reasons. Vtec is basically just a combination of normal driving and sporty driving in an engine for the drivers experience by giving the engine a larger camshaft profile at a certain rpm. You may as well lock the camshaft pin so that the larger cam profile is always engaged. There’s no point of buying a new cam when you can just cam your engine for dirt cheap.
@jdmtsheej30516 ай бұрын
Um, yes, depending on the car settings up for, idk with this setup. The car would have issued vtec coming on n off. So, I decided to try locked vtec with the pin. Wasn't a dd, so the low end wasn't much issue. But rather, it drives fine with the bisimoto stage 3. The lope was pretty okay. u just had to max out the iacv n idle at 1100 rpm. I'm planning on locking vtec on b swap this summer.

@@jdmtsheej3051 ok so the stock motor survived the turbo?
@jdmtsheej30519 ай бұрын
@pyqlem5884 It all depends on how healthy the stock motor is. According to my cluster, the motor had 170k, and when I did the compression test, all numbers were equal. So, not all stock motors are gonna be the same. If you check my other videos out the car was runing 14 psi, but due to the turbo I have its on the bigger side, due to me wanted to keep the motor alive. Keeping power towards the higher end of the powerband. So it's laggy for the setup due to lower igntion timing / big turbo.

@pyqlem5884 170k on the cluster, n is it your only car like. Only transportation? If so I wouldn't recommend it but that's up to u. For example good tunable ecu/ tunner if u want the car to last is by far most important when doing engine modifications to a car.

B20 motor came out of a crv, hence they have the extra displacement. It's the same as any b18b non vtec engine but the extra 84mm bore. Throw a vtec head on it u have best of both world end torque n high end power.
@LethalAtma Жыл бұрын
without a tune the b20z gets 130 torque to the wheels. the gsr and type r only get about 110-115 stock. cams Would be nice in any of these motors, but ultimately a waste without the right pistons. if you dont have the compression to capitalize on the extra air, it does nothing but burn more gas. i was looking into stage 3 cams for my b20, but its only worth it if youre running a lot boost or stupid high compression. my b20 swap 90 civic will get an s2000 off the line but once its hits third, i get left. he said, "i was worried for a minute"
@jdmtsheej3051 Жыл бұрын

@@jdmtsheej3051 b20vtec is incredible but fairly expensive. For 3 grand you only get 200 whp but if you spend the same money on a turboed b18 you can make 300 and keep stock injectors/cv axles etc. Cams, pistons, intake, header without vtec or a tune is about 1100 and should be enough to outrun an s2k. obd0 is tunable without a ecu, obd1 must be tuned regardless of ecu
@jdmtsheej3051 Жыл бұрын
@LesskoBrandon all motor is far more reliable than a turbo setup, but on a the stock motor with boost yours pretty much hoping for the best since its a stock engine. Stock injectors prably maxed out with 4 psi of boost, so that's a no go. Depending on the situation if u want power or longevity. Or both u gonna need some deep pockets.
