Really hoping the Grizzlies made the right call with Jay Huff instead of going for a more experienced center to help Zach Edey. It's gonna be interesting to see how this plays out. At the end of the day, the Grizzlies know how to stay healthy and playing great defense is what matters and will help increase their chances to win!

Why on earth would grizzlies use assets to move up in the draft? For Shepherd? For another center who was OWNED by our 9th pick when they played head to head? Not a fan of giving up everything to get some "star" that another team is trying to dump. I can't wait to see the team if we stay healthy, and if that happens, many people, including apparently you, I think are going to be changing your tune. Let's play the games, go grizzlies.

I am no expert about these things at all, but when I consider just how small of market we are, l never expect us to make a big splash in free agency. So I would give the Grizzlies off season a B-. Although we might take a hit with experience and on defense.. offensively we are more talented now. Adams, Melton, Tillman, Tyus, Zaire and Brooks were mostly defenders and mostly brick shooters from behind the arc. That's was just not going to be enough to win a chip.

The reality of the new salary cap rules is that most teams paying 2 or more max contracts will struggle to maintain a decent roster around those guys. I suspect more & more you'll see top players do what Brunson did & take $100 m less than he could have so they could pay the other guys some & keep the team together.

If you’re gonna compare last season’s healthy roster with our roster goin into this season, you have to view Vince, GG, and Scottie as new additions because they weren’t part of the team’s plans but now they are. Plus they had a better chance to develop their game and confidence. It seems like we did nothing in the off-season because last season was basically an extension of this offseason.

i somewhat agree if you compare last offseason's view to this offseason's view, you could think of Vince and GG as additions. Slight correction, I think you meant Daniel Gafford, not Holmes. Gafford and PJ were players I wanted the Grizz to trade for. Everything you've said makes logical sense, especially with the regional TV contract in flux. But it just feels like every off-season this franchise makes an excuse not to maximize the roster and put together the best talent possible to compete in the playoffs. Feels like they'd prefer to moneyball it than spend into the tax and strengthen the playoff rotation.

Luke Kennard‘s new one-year contract with the Grizzlies, originally reported to be worth $11MM, actually has a base salary of just $9.25MM, Hoops Rumors has learned. Kennard can also earn an additional $1,387,500 in unlikely incentives, so his deal can max out at $10,637,500. That disparity between the reported terms and the actual terms is important, given Memphis’ proximity to the luxury tax line. An $11MM cap hit would have put the Grizzlies over the luxury tax line by about $1MM, but because Kennard counts for just $9.25MM against the cap, the team’s salary is hovering right around $170MM, a little below the tax line ($170,814,000).

Can you give your subscribers an official or unofficial roster of the Grizzlies as it currently stands as of the 1st week of August, 2024? Again , regarding the salary cap. I love my city, but the fact of the matter is, the market is way too small to spend the ways you suggest. That's why so many people outside of the city say move to Nashville. The Grizzles organization knows Memphis loves them, and they love the city back! That's why they are focused on building from the inside, through culture and player development. Signing high priced free agents just isn't feasible. All of the contracts have come from trades, resigns and the draft. If Vince or GG were to start, we'd have a contender level starting five built through the draft. I think the entire organization has done a great job, from top to bottom.
@na_k
@na_k 17 күн бұрын
No one is asking them to spend carelessly on free agents. This team, and org for that matter has always lacked experience. There were vet free agents available for this team to acquire. Trades they could have pursued, but they choose to hang onto inconsistent rotational players. They could've solidified the rotation, especially for the playoffs. Kleiman stated last yr it was a mistake to double down on youth, then proceeded to triple down on it this off-season. Kleiman said they would go for it and view themselves as contenders, but didn't make any contending type moves. But every top team in the WC did by adding vets. With Kleiman so far, it's a bunch of talk without action. To win a title in the NBA, you have to have a mostly vet led rotation and go into the tax. That's been proven time and time again. Every team in the conference finals last yr had a vet heavy rotation, not a bunch of 2nd & 3rd year players.

You're right, the Grizzlies have done a great job building from within, and the focus on culture and player development is important. Though defensive schemes and knowing how to stay healthy are key! However, they haven't had the chance to get fully acclimated with a full and healthy roster. We need to give the Grizzlies a chance to play with the roster, see who fits best where, and how they can complement each other. A healthy team could really show the Grizzlies their true potential. #GrizzNation

You might address this in the vid (just now started watching), but it's interesting that some of the free agents only committed to 1-year contracts this off-season. Luke and Tyus Jones (with the Suns) both did it. I wonder if the new salary cap restrictions are making it more difficult for talent-heavy teams to sign role players to longer term contracts. or if the players themselves think that they may be able to make a bit more money by hopping teams every year or two with short-term contracts?
