5 speed gearbox from a very small vehicle would be ideal for this purpose. increased torque at low RPM. Plus the advantage of a reverse gear. Nice job overall.

This would be great in a apocalypse or if you got all the parts of very little well done excellent problem solving, only thing I would say (coming from somone who has there own workshop & has scratch build many large projects including a CNC router) is the cost to scatch build a lathe out costs buying a 2nd hand one,the cost of steel & components / linear rails, bearings, belts,timing pullys,motor/chucks,tools all add up in the end, I picked up a few lathes cheap over the ladt year first a boxford TH10.20 for £205 on fleeBay & then a colchester student square head for £400. You simply can't beat that level of engineering for that price

I've been binge watching your Homemade lathe series, and I have to say, that's one of the most beautiful homemade lathes I've ever seen. It's built so appropriately it gives good finishes, meaning everything is tight in all the right places. It's sturdy and powerful, it rivals name brand cast iron lathes. Very well done. May I ask, would there possibly be a milling machine build, further down the road, in the near future? You probably wouldn't need to, because the lathe being the King of machines, you can adapt a lot of milling capabilities to it, I just figured you'd try as another challenge. Either way, great job on your lathe.
@dexter14482 ай бұрын
@@eddietowers5595 Thank you very much, I really appreciate it :) The lathe has really proven itself over the last few years and nothing has broken yet. I bought a used milling machine about 2 years ago at an extremely affordable price. So I won't build one. There were plans to build one myself, but to be honest the effort would have been too high for me. The construction of the lathe took over half a year. But I learned so much from it so I'm glad I did it. I wish you a nice day Greetings from Germany Robin

If anyone is thinking of making a homemade lathe, don't grease the chuck,use oil...if you use these bearings, make your first project be bearing housings for tapered roller bearings.....and don't use a solid spindle shaft you will regret not having a through hole....Oh and if you make a video about it,don't ruin it with terrible music.

Sonst kannst du mir ja vielleicht mitteilen was für Lager du verbaut hast

Chapeau! This is by far the most amazing and inspirational video I have seen on KZbin. I have been an auto mechanic for 35 years and machine shop machines and lathes in particular are impressive to me because I have known and seen a talented machinist make some incredible things I asked of him when I was trying to build a bracelet engraving machine 45 years ago. I hope you realize how talented you are and keep at it. Thanks to you, I now have a new respect for the younger generation of today. There is hope after all!

@@андрій-д1ж Nice 🤘🏼 Im using my Lathe for a few Years now. Everything works still. You have to now that this takes a few Month and cost propably more than an old used one to build one yourself. But im glad that i build it. I learn so mutch, and ive produced a lot of parts on it and selling them so it was worth it 😄👍🏼 I would build it like that again but on a fix base without wheels. You will never roll that thing (maybe on time per Year) And maybe 20cm longer and a 200mm Chuck, but it depents what you want to do with it... Eyerything other works great until now 👍🏼 Bearing slides and bearing threaded rod are a must have in my opinion. They are mutch smoother than them on an normal lathe.
