The beginning of the adagio let me cry like a little boy. Completely unexpected. I know that piece quite well. Overwheled by its simplicity. Wow. I felt no manipulation at all - it was just an invitation to give in all kind of emotions and I gave in so easily. Rest in Piece M. Jansons and thank you Iveta Apkalna for this here.

The opening is insipid but the strings resurrect the themes gradually; the second movement needed more spine and the scherzo more bite; where Jansons and Apkalna score is in the organ finale and in particular; the final cadence). My recommendations : {L'ORTF/Jean Martinon - Detroit/Paul Paray - Boston/Charles Munch - Philadelphia/Jeno Ormandy Blau - Los Angeles/Zubin Mehta - Vienna Symphony/Georges Pretre}. Jansons takes seventh place.

At the time a resurrection at least of the symphony form. Many special brass filled symphonies, but I still like to think of this one as a “Symphony (with brass)”

Terrific camera work, as I'm still on the first movement.. I presume it's safe to expect it to stay as terrific! Performance worthy of the great camera work.

Amazing performance. 1:00 I. Adagio - Allegro Moderato - 11:28 Poco Adagio 21:09 II. Allegro Moderato - Presto - 28:59 Maestoso - Allegro Thanks to @Tim Uibel for the correction.

The second movement is really 11:28 where the organ is played very softly.
@unpythonic Жыл бұрын
@@digitricks Second movement really does start at 21:09. My mistake was annotating a third movement -- this is a two movement work. 11:28 is where the poco adagio section begins, and lots of cds do mark that as track 2.

@operalover25123 жыл бұрын
Das ist eine Kirchenorgel, auch wenn sie - übrigens ein ganzer Wald von Pfeifen - in einem Konzertsaal steht. Die meisten modernen Domorgeln unterscheiden sich davon in keiner Weise.

It is not an organ concerto but a symphony with organ. The composer inscribed it as: Symphonie No. 3 "avec orgue" (with organ).

What concert hall and what city is this in?
@dizzyology75143 жыл бұрын
Gasteig Philharmonie in Munich, a hall infamous for its poor acoustics. Leonard Bernstein, when asked how it could be improved, said "Burn it." Largely because of the devoted efforts of the late Maestro Jansens, the BRSO will be moving to a brand new concert hall, probably in 2024.

It is, after all, a symphony that happens to have a pipe organ in it. The music itself is simply magnificent as is this performance of it. Yes, the organ could have been a bit more prominent, but the overall effect of the performance (as well as the sound and video recording of it) is superb. What a joy to hear such beautiful music played at such a high level of expertise.
@hans24063 жыл бұрын
I do agree, the organ did sound a bit timide. That said, it is the very best registration I have ever heard. Although the one in St Paul's cathedral in London was the best "live" performance I ever heard and felt.
@digitricks3 жыл бұрын
Agreed. The organ could have been a tad brighter in the mixtures. However, I am very pleased with the video production, angles, timing and transitions. Overall a very wonderful performance. Neither too fast nor too slow.
