I lived in Capitol Hill for a couple years and I wasn't welcome in that neighborhood because I was a straight guy. Capitol Hill has the biggest gay community in Seattle, so if you're not one of them...I say gay, they will find out sooner than later.

That was another thing that called my attention not seeing a bunch of people fishing the shore and lakes. You are not supposed to eat the fish, it is in your own risks cos of the contamination.

I don't know what he is talking about. Seattle is a very green wet city with a lot of rainy days and you are never going to listen to a frog singing. Do you wonder why? Also in most water spots such as fresh water lakes and beaches you will see a warning sign "Contaminated Water" jump on your own risks. Or " Do not fish and do not swim" The entire city of Seattle is contaminated and I'm not the one saying that. There is a documentary on PBS about Seattle and the contamination that existed for many years and why.

I got stuck and lived in Seattle for ten years and I have to tell you to be careful and don't make the same mistake I made. The first thing I noticed is that Seattle is a very wet city year around. Second, people are very cold, they don't make eye contact or talk to you when you say hello or good morning...very unfriendly people and a very depressed city. I also noticed a lot of people with some kind of mental and drugs problems. And by the time I move out of Seattle and back to the East Coast the city of Seattle was a very dangerous place to live.

I escaped Seattle and will never go back. Politics there are insane and the cost of living is outrageous. Great place off your worth millions of dollars and you only go where millionaires hang out though. Seattle a dumpster fire but still, Go Dawgs! WOOF!

7:43 It's called Pike Place Market because it's on Pike Place, actually. If you're on Pike Street facing the big famous "Public Market Center" sign with the clock, the street off the the 90° turn to the right from that is Pike Place. Pike Place runs from the turn off Pike Street up to Virginia Street.

I just left Seattle after living there 10 years. It was beautiful when I moved there. And although the people are weird, it was bearable. Nowadays, the people are insufferable, the traffic on 405 has sucked ever since they made the HOV lane in Bellevue. Crime is going up, things are getting trashier, even in the burbs. It’s starting to remind me of Philadelphia in the late 90s.

Olympian here, I can say that a good half of this lingo referenced is common outside of Seattle too. People in Olympia, Lacey, Tacoma, Tumwater, etc will also say "I-5", "Pike Place", SeaTac, etc. Although, as a suburbs/countryside guy, I do usually refer to exits when describing where I'm coming from, and not city names; it's not as industrialized where I live I suppose 😂 While you're in the state, come check out Leavenworth too! It's a couple hours drive, but the mountains are really beautiful up close, and the rivers are gorgeous in the summer

I moved here 6 months ago and totally agree with these terms. I naturally say these terms without having learned it was the "local lingo." I would argue that these terms are just.... normal? Pike place was the hardest though. Pikes Peak is more famous to me, so I would say it as Pike's Place (ownership).

Maybe I'm just old, but wasn't the Market originally referred to as the Pike Street Market (Vs. Pike Place)? Either way I always just say the Market. "Pike's Place" has always been like a rock in your shoe. It just isn't right.

I was working n Tukwila one day, and someone was telling me about an accident on the freeway. He said ''ya out on the interstate four O five". I instantly new he wasnt from around here. No one but maybe king, komo, or kiro traffic call it any thing but '405'. Same with interstate 90, its just 90, or maybe i-90 if your giving directions.

Prominence vs elevation. Rainier has by far the largest prominence in the lower 48 and was also considered the tallest until GPS became a thing
