We have just adopted a female Eclectus she is very hormonal and not very tame as the previous owner had her locked in a cage with no stand for her to sit on when outside the cage we just leave the cage open for her to explore we also have a dog but does not seem to bother her people should not have parrots if their not going to put the time in

I have a female eclectus “Freya” and she has escaped her cage 4 times and has always come up but she did stay around home which was great. She says “hello baby, thank you, I love you, mum and good girl.”

My Female Eclectus makes a lot of noises but doesn't imitate words. I was under the impression that was the norm for females. I'm wondering if mine is just shy and doesn't want to talk.

It really depends on the individual bird, the females can be just as if not more talkative than the males. Set up a recording device somewhere next time she is alone. Two of my girls are closet talkers. They get all shy and don't say a word when we're around but they talk up a storm when we're not in the house!

I had a 30 year old rescue Macaw. Sadly she had to be taken to a special disabled bird hospital as her injuries and health resulting from abuse was just too severe to lead a happy pain free life as a pet. I am ready for my next bird and have been looking at the electus and an option instead of the Macaw. What are the cons of an electus? What's the main difference (apart from size) between a Macaw and electus that you know of?

I would love to have an eclectus hen as a pet, but I am cautious because they can be aggressive. This darling seems to be super sweet though, and I know every bird is an individual. Does this gal get hormonal and moody, if so, how do you cope?
