Different design; construction techniques, etc. The reason I ask, as a layman, if someone “off-world” wanted to analyze our homes and just saw a box with rooms and a closet…it’s conceivable they would say a closet is a “box within a box within a box”…unless each “box” was constructed of different materials, dimensions, etc. It’s like trying to explain to someone that a castle is a fortress…but a vault isn’t a safe-room or a fortress. Maybe one “contractor” built an “addition.” Maybe another contractor wanted to “preserve” the previous structure and protect it from the elements. Maybe the last contractor wanted that particular site/location to wear his signature, without defacing the prior owners efforts. “Speculation” is everywhere and true intentions aren’t obvious.
